Calzaghe vs. Roy Jones who would win in their prime?

Roy Jones knocks him out in the first round.

Before anyone cries about how this is ridiculous and impossible. A 39 year old, over 5 years past his prime RJJ almost had him out in the first.

 

Joe would have never fought him in his prime .He even admitted it to his son when his son watched video of a young Jones and his son starting crying .

yes with a forearm smash. Calzaghe wasn't even hurt. So, this 'almost' talk is complete bull ****.

 

I think the Roy from the Toney fight stops him in an entertaining fight...

Jones had Iron Jawed Toney hurt on occasion, but Toney was able to weather the storm with his defensive wizardry.

I always see Calzaghe coming at Jones, fighting fire with fire, Jones' firepower was on another level, and was faster.. I don't see Calzaghe running, or backpedaling, I see him trading and trying to take Jones out, which he would eat some serious shots in doing that..

Calzaghe's durability has never been tested by a fighter with Jones' speed or power.. I don't see it going 12 mostly due to styles.. I think 168 lb Roy was all wrong for Joe, I just can't think of many strengths that would help him against that Roy.

I think based on him handling two of some of the best fighters of our generation with relative ease gets people thinking a bit.

And weak jaw or not, we have to think how hard it was to load up a punch and hit Roy cleanly during his prime, and the fact that you are gonna take punishment in trying.. Roy has a good chance against anyone at 168 in my opinion.

 

So, based on two boring fights with Hopkins and Toney? Seriously? :huh

 

I didn't find the Toney fight boring at all... That was one of the best displays of unique boxing ability since Leonard...

I just put Hopkins and Toney because they were top caliber fighters, that Roy beat with ease.. Sure there may have been more entertaining Roy fights.

Its just when I break down all the strengths and weaknesses of Roy... That insane combination of speed and power, punches from all angles that fighters couldn't really begin to prepare for.. Even if his jaw was paper, (which I don't think it always was) he was still ridiculously hard to hit cleanly with a power shot... fighters would certainly take punishment before they were able to land it, if they could at all...

I am sure if he fought all the greats from 160-168, its possible he may lose a couple, but I think he beats more than you think.:yep

Put the boot on the other foot, if Calzaghe had fought Toney and Hopkins, you'd count them as his best performances and the yardstick to which others measure up.


Yet becasue its Roy Jones we are debating whom you hate, you dismiss it. Your anger makes you weak.

 

I dont know why people would even pick calzaghe, if he would fight a prime roy jones he would of got tortured in the ring

 

Just guessing, but main reason is that most of these people are Bailey's alt log-ins.

 

This subject has to end and be buried b4 nonsense comes to the surface. Nobody beats RJJ at his prime. Bernard couldn't do it. James couldn't do it. How come Calzaghe would be able to? RRoy was just too athletic and slick to be beaten by an excellent boxer-puncher.

 

Also, keeping in mind when we think of the greats, we have to also put their performances up against who they fought? Roy's speed and power combination is very rare throughout the history of boxing.. They have not fought anyone quite like him.. Maybe similar, but not exact...

I agree with you though, you fight the best fighters of all time, you are gonna lose some.. Eventually one of those big hitters would catch him, i am sure, but It would be hard for me to bet on which one it would be.:yep:good
