yeah I thought the same, so I watched McCallums fights first and then voted. I wanted to vote Calzaghe in all honesty at first, but now I know much better having seen Mike fight. Mike not only fought better opponents, but fought with more skill, strength and ability.

yeah I think h2h is another question, it would be close. prime mcallum might well take calzaghe over 12 rounds. In realtime, calzaghe would beat a 40year old mccallum, kick his ass, probably stop him, and the evidence suggests that Calzaghe would have been very happy to fight old 40something McCallum because thats how he always faced legends - so this fight could even have happened. But prime McCallum, Calzaghe cant really do his fitness trick to beat this guy who is a better boxer than him and just as fit. He has to stick and run, else Mike will put him down. The best he can do is 'welsh ref' him in Cardiff, with a possible tko early unwarranted stoppage, then it might be 60/40 in Joe's favour. but elsewhere McCallum has the advantage and might even genuinely tko Joe. 'Might' because Joe was very resilent.
I know this isn't really related but just a question of all the great fighters McCallum beat do you think any of them would beat Cazaghe? I'm not so sure Curry: Would be too small McCrory: As above Kalambay I'd give him a chance, but i think size would be a factor again Graham: He could probably match Calzaghe on natural ability but again he'd be too small Collins: Calzaghe would be too skilled for him Harding: As above Watson I'd give him a small chance but Calz would win 8 out of 10 imo Jackson: Punchers chance, but again too small Toney: i think he'd probably beat Calz, but McCallum never beat him
I am flattered that you;d ask me. collins, we will never know. I think it would be touch and go, same as Watson. Graham would possibly beat him on points, stylistically hes not good for Cal (I may be biased since my name is HerolGee haha). I dont know enough about the other bigger guys, but McCrory no way, he was a one strike opportunist strong but lacking in skill and speed.
Calzaghe could pass for 3 weights bigger than Graham. Joe would be way too big and strong. I'd give the likes of Watson or Collins a chance but none of the others.
I'd like to think that Herol can use his superior skills to beat him. He might get caught up with late on, as was the way with him. But you know, even with his extra weight I am not sure Joe has the power to stop the Bomber. Slapping away wont do any good against an arch-slickster. An arch-evader, I should really say. It'd not be a fight you'd pay to watch, anyway.
Calzaghe wouldn't have beaten Watson, a fighter who'd counter in combinations (not just one-shot single counters like Eubank, Mitchell, Lacy and Hopkins) - Watson countered in combinations beautifully against Benn and McCallum and in the rematch with Eubank.
Calzaghe has a good resume But this one goes to the Bodysnatcher, he fought and beat better fighters, and was unlucky not to land fights with any of the fab four. Apparently Mike used to give Tommy Hearns all he could handle in sparring at the Kronk. Tommy is by far my favourite fighter, but he'd be hard pressed to beat a prime Mccallum. Though I think Mike would have lost to a peak Hagler, he could have beaten the 86-87 Hagler H2H would be close, Mike is more skilled, but was past his prime above 160, which means Calzaghe would have the size advantage
I will say this much about Calzaghe's resume: If you wish to credit him for the Hopkins fight, given how well Bernard continued to perform afterward even at his age? All right, but you must then demote the Lacy win rather severely, given how Lacy only ever faced the one elite fighter, lost badly, and never contended again.
I thought Lacy was garbage before the fight, and couldn't see him living with Calzaghe, who had given (albeit a not-at-his-sharpest, injured-knee'd) Eubank a going over!
