Who would you favor in Cerdan Lamotta part 2?

i dont know much about cerdan

 

Jake easy peesy. He went through hell to get a title shot. No way would he lose it.

 

It's like Robinson said...LaMotta was some animal. It has been said before on here, but LaMotta threw him around the first time, he would do it again IMO...although the general consensus from boxing people says differently...A real fight for Jake would have been a pre WWII Zale...then again, I'd pick LaMotta again.

 

Cerdan. Just a better fighter all around. Faster, tighter defense, harder puncher. Jake may have tossed him around in the opening stanza of their first fight, but so what? Walcott tossed Marciano around even worse in the first round of their fight (even floored him).

Welterweights went the distance and even beat LaMotta. Cerdan would too, imho

 

But Marcel was so long in the tooth by then.

 

LaMotta if he trained as hard for the rematch as he did for the first fight, but that's a big if.

In the end, LaMotta got the win and Cerdan did not. Cerdan was also going to be 34 years old, and not any younger or stronger to deal with "the Bull". He got nothing going in the first fight, it's not like he was schooling LaMotta until a sudden injury. I just find it hard to believe that Cerdan could have turned it all around in a rematch. Unless LaMotta just didn't care and put in no effort whatsoever which was possible.

Mentality and conditioning played a big part in LaMotta's effectiveness. If he wasn't willing to walk through anything his opponent could offer while consistently trying to impose his will, then he just wasn't going to be half the fighter that he could be at his best. The notion of winning the title after a long, hard road brought out the best in him, atleast the best he could come up with after a few years of aimless drifting in the middleweight division, with a sudden title shot given when Cerdan's management felt LaMotta was "ripe" for the takings. Atleast this is what the press thought at the time.

 

From the bout I saw Lamotta was outclassing Cerdan prior to the injury. Lamotta was a cutie in there and he does not get the credit he deserves. Jake wins the rematch.

very hard to say. both a bit old, jake physically better but cerdan more skilled, ko unlikely either way all the makings of a close fight. lamotta 14rd tko

 

LaMotta lost in good fashion to lots of boxers & fighters who were as busy or even more relentless than even he, and a good few losses to Welters too.

a healthy fit Cerdan punches him all over the ring, and an overwhelmed and beaten Jake losses another one of these type decisions to stronger better fighters!

and Cerdan was one of the Greatest of alltime for his double barrel pistons a pumpin, as well as strength, defence and just an all round better fighter!

 

Cerdan would pull out a narrow decision,imo.

 

LaMotta fought far better competition than Cerdan. Cerdan's noteworthy opponents were LaMotta, an old Zale and an old Holman Williams. None of his opponents until about his 100th professional bout were truly worth of note.
