Lewis got caught by a big right hand from Vitali in the second but took it very well. After this punch Lewis walked Vitali down cut him badly in the third round. The cuts get worser and worser in the six round Lewis caught Vitali with an uppercut, Vitali does not go down but the cut where so worse so the doctor had to stopp the fight after six rounds. Vitali was ahead on the cards per 2 rounds. Legal TKO 6 win for Lewis.
Since when is winning the first 4 rounds of a 12 round fight considered a "total domination and schooling" anyway?
I thought the only ones he won clearly were the first two,but in answer to your question,it is the first amendment of the Klitland constitution.
He won four in total. That being said, Lewis had a big six round and won it almost as comprehensively as VK won the second. That doesn't happen when one is being "dominated" and "schooled".
The juiciest (and one of the more frequently espoused!) bits of sour grape is that Lennox would have been certain to have been KTFO in the seventh what with the number Vitali was supposedly doing on him and age taking its toll. As though he was out on his feet during the sixth. If anything the exact opposite was likelier!
Vitali was holding on for dear life at the end of the last round. I thought for sure that Lennox was gonna get him out of there but older bro managed to hold on for dear life. There is no way I can say with certainty that Lennox was gonna finish the Job the next round but Vitali would have been lucky to make it out of the 7th. ten years later I wish that the doctor did not stop the fight so Lennox could have finished the job and vanquished the Klittards before they ever came to be! ****ing guys still crying decade later:bart
i think a tko during the seventh was just as likely for either man....a KO for either highly unlikely....both guys took huge shots up to that point and their punches weren't getting any crisper..... had the fight been allowed to go to 7, it probably would have been a continued give and take battle and the doctor most certainly would have stopped it in between rounds for a tko7....but that didn't happen, tko6 did one thing i haven't seen discussed is the effect of the cut on Vitali's performance, if Lennox was not at 100%; certainly, it can be argued that from round 3 on neither was Vitali.....cuts can have a big effect on fighters mentally and physically.....especially to fighters who have previously never been cut and to my knowledge Vitali had not been thoughts IB?
That is backed up by the irrefutable evidence of Lewis sitting awkwardly on his stool at the end of the round. That was a hot theory for a while around here. Of course, the fact Lewis was just walking through Vitalis punches (Vitalis punches were having less and less impact as the fight went on), and landing massive punches of his own that were clearly taking their toll on Vitali is irrelevant. HE SAT DOWN FUNNY!!!! What's not clear about that?
This fight can be summed up in some simple comments. ESB Pre-crash (one of them) "Gottem" Lennox Lewis speaking analytically on the fight: He had shot his load." Facts: TKO6
