I was actually thinking Nonito who Flea I think said was something like a modern Jimmy McClarnin. Of course I might have been drunk...
Love Kalambay, but I think it's clear McCallum is above him p4p. Mike did at least as well at MW IMO, but had his best years at 154 and also managed to win a title at LHW.
Yeah, as I say this is fair but for me Sumbu was the greater middle. His win over McCallum is truly one of the best performances I've ever seen. 1-1 with Graham whereas Mike is 1-0. Both had equal hassle with him. Graham's win over Kalambay is the most decisive of the 3 IMO, but I have just rewatched it and Kalambay was slipping. He had the win over Collins left in him, a good past prime win. That adds to his legacy IMO, highly ranked contender who went on to be among the top fighters at super middle as well (was Collins ever the true no.1 there though?)Of course Mike has this scalp as well. McCallum never stopped and wily at light heavyweight. If you don't hold that kind of 'achievement' highly then I guess Kalambay would be outside the top 30. Where would you have him? Above/below Don Curry? Starling? Trinidad?
My next question would be; for resume and achievement how does everyone think 'The Body Snatcher' and 'Money' match up?
On how do you feel about 'em? I'm pretty sure I had the first a draw. Is the second fight where Mike is completely ****ed in the 12th?
I'd have him slightly above Curry. Think they were about even in terms of skill and ability, but Kalambay showed more discipline and consistency. Don't really know much about Starling, so I'll leave that one. Trinidad... Tricky. Trinidad had good wins in several divisions, so that probably gives him the edge. Much prefer Kalambay, though.
Floyd is much more dominant and consistent. McCallum's resume is better. Floyd is the better H2H fighter at his best weight. Maybe a better H2H fighter overall. But he never faced fighters like Toney or Kalambay. Floyd avoided his biggest challenge. McCallum didn't. As usual depends on your personal criteria.
No, that's the first. That one could have gone either way IMO, so a draw was fair. But there's not any way whatsoever that I can see anything but a win for McCallum in the second.
Nice post. As for Starling: http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showpost.php?p=11034285&postcount=905 http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showpost.php?p=11034293&postcount=906 http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showpost.php?p=11034293&postcount=907 Enjoy (I hope) :good And the Baret fight is now on YouTube. Going back to the thread; if you have Sumbu above Don Curry you'll have him above Starling. No reason not to immerse yourself further with one of the greatest defensive fighters of all time :yep
Thinking of it pretty sure I had their series 1-1-1. Which would mean I had Mike winning second...hmm...remember being really mashed last time I watched their series, hence why I ain't got nuttin' concrete...hold on.
I gave Toney the first fight because of the 12th round in which he all but beheaded McCallum, but I think the Bodysnatcher outworked him in the second. And i'm not sure Floyd has a win on that level.
Mike: LMW - Kalule, Curry, J Jackson, Braxton, McCrory. MW - Kalambay, Toney*, Graham, Collins, Watson, - Kalambay (L), Toney (L). LHW - Harding, Yonker. In his prime only losing to Toney and Sumbu. Missed out on his biggest fight which would have been a unification with Hearns. Mayweather: SFW - G Hernandez, Corrales, G Vargas, Manfredy, J Chavez, C Rios, Juuko, C Gerena. LW - Castillo (x2), Ndou, Sosa, Augustus. LWW - Corley, Brusseles, Gatti. WW - Baldmoir, Hatton, Mosely, Judah, JM Marquez, Ortiz, S Mitchell. LMW - De La Hoya, Cotto. Floyd's resume is deeper and he's never lost. Mike's is top heavier and he's beaten everyone he fought in his prime by my cards. Mike was number 1 in LMW and MW. Mayweather was number 1 in SFW, LW, WW and LMW. I think Floyd is undoubtedly the more skilled fighter but h2h Mike would kill him at LMW. I think Floyd has achieved more but I'd probably give Mike the edge on resume based on quality of the fighter's when faced. It's hard to say really because I think LFoyd's achievements outweight the edge in resume Mike has and I think Floyd at SFW was better than Mike at LMW. I'd probably place Floyd higher tbh.
