Tyson did turn southpaw sometimes when he got overexcited.

They both square up too much, planting their feet side to side. They are both aggressive risk takers but moreso Dempsey, which is where I think Tyson pre prison might get the edge.

Tyson had a better Dempsey-like run to the title and a much better, more active stay at the title than Dempsey. He beat fighters in a much stronger era in an equally emphatic fashion.

But I am sure there are those that will argue Carl Morris would have taken Spinks, Thomas, Smith, Tubbs, Berbick all they could have handled...

What five heavyweights would you regard as better finishers out of curiosity?

Not necessarily better finishers but more powerful punchers:

Louise, foreman, lewis, tyson and wlad.

Out of those 5, I think only foreman is a worse finisher as he has at times failed to finish someone he's had hurt.

I could buy any of these guys as harder punchers, but guys who could punch as hard as these guys are ten a penny in the grand scheme of things. You could find another 15, who never held the title.

Truly great finishers are as rare as hens teeth.

    I agree.

If say we're making tier's of punching power, Jack would be in 2 or 3. That's my only point.

When I say his power is overstated I mean that as one of the hardest punchers.

Anyone seriously doubting Tyson wouldn't take a 37yo defenceless Willard out in 1 round with those tiny gloves  Oh right it's Janitor, SMH

As Arcel stated "you can't teach what Dempsey had". Jack was an all time great hwt and was rated as the best for many decades. Trainers like Arcel rated him the best (right along with Louis and Ali). Yes he was that good. Jack was the best infighter in hwt history for sure. Also there was no dog in Dempsey. Lots of dog in Tyson.

There was lots of black in Tyson, tho, which would have kept him from ever being a Dempsey opponent. That special status was reserved for dough-soft 37 year old cowpokes, litlle French fairy featherweights, the infirmed and the utterly skilless.
