If you take the time to Know About Them, they'd be far more lucky to sniff the top ten. :smoke

You don't really need Patterson, you left off Holmes is is definitly top 5 material to me. Add in Liston, Dempsey, Johnson, and Charles and he could be as high as 12?

Also, Wlad isn't as far seperated from Tyson as some would think

:patsch Yes, what the hell was that about, anyway?

Interviewer: Are just grateful to be in there with guys like Sylvester Stallone and Kostya Tszyu?

    Mike: :sad2 Yes.

(Thinking: 'Ten years ago, I would have sodomized you in public until you loved me for asking me that, of course.')

Jesus, I completely forgot Holmes. I knew I forgot someone. Hard to miss those 20 title defenses :patsch

Didn't Liston not have a long reign though? I knew he blew through Patterson twice and lost to Ali, never to regain the title. I'll head over to BoxRec.

Yes. Most people on boxing sites these days no longer focus on HW'S as much as they ride the midget weights dicks.

    Boxing=HeavyWeight.

It is the premier division. Mike Tyson is a top 10 ATG HW. As for Dempsey being a top 10 HW instead of Tyson. Let me tell you guys about Dempsey.

Dempsey scored around 50 ko's mainly against the greatest list of horse drivers, restaurant waiters, and ditch diggers ever ensembled.. on his way to the world title.

Prior to the Willard showdown, his greatest achievement was fighting Fred Fulton and a very sick Battling Levinsky.
Other than that, he' fought still Green Billy Miske, who he easily countered. Styles make fights and that was a great example. Bill Brennan was another guy that he easily countered. The fact that they were two of his seven title defenses speak volumes about his character and his desire to be great. :patsch Yet, compare to his other title defenses, these two might as well have been Prime Lennox Lewis.

His other title fights include: light-heavy, Georges Carpentier, the true definition of a 'Euro Bum'. LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT:Tommy Gibbons(who was beaten and raped by Tunney) Jimmy Darcey: who is journeyman status at best.

and Luis Angel Firpo, who literally just fight an entire match looking for one KO punch as he himself lose round after round in pathetic fashion. A Poor Man's Randall Bailey (minus the p4p powers)

Dempsey also didn't fight Wills, Jeannette, Langford and McVey . All were well past prime and should have been easy cake walks for Dempsey. Yet he still ducked them :lol:

Jack Dempsey is extremely over rated. People were so easy to please back in the 20's :lol:

Good Post, Felix. Prime Lennox Lewis would have destroyed Jack Dempsey's entire resume via jabs alone.:lol::lol:

I have Mike Tyson as a top 8 HW. I have Jack Dempsey somewhere between David Tua and David Haye

I saw Liston only had one defense of the title. I know he was a monster and hit like a ****ing mule, but based on accomplishments, I feel it's hard to put him in the top 10.

So with Holmes in there after forgetting, I got 8 people. So Tyson would be my 9th, but again I don't have guys in there that most do since I don't know much about heavyweight boxing before the late 1930's. And Wladimir Klitschko, when all is said and done, will be in the top 10. He's at 12 defenses and I see him making it to 20. He ain't retiring anytime soon and I don't see him losing anytime soon either.

:lol: I can't believe you box recing warrior status.:lol:

Title Defenses don't mean jack ****. Numbers don't mean ****. It's all about quality of opposition.
Why don't you just come out and admit 'I don't much care for HW Boxing, so I don't know much about some of the fighters' That's no big deal. But don't bring title defenses into arguments for HW ATG Criteria

Ummmmm, I am sorry. I am not a boxing historian. Also, I like to rate my fighters based on accomplishments too. Sorry I don't know Sonny Liston's resume like I know my ****.

You're right. I don't care for heavyweight boxing, despite the numerous fights I've seen. I'm not a boxing historian. I can't sit here and ****ing memorize resumes like you do. You're really smart. You should take over for Bert Sugar.

Title defenses count for something. It's hard to maintain focus and stay on the top for so long without losing, even against average comp. It's not hard to slip up and let a rahman, douglas, sanders, norton, type fighter upset you.

Now granted, I think Frazier's victory over Ali means more than Wlad's whole resume. So there are exceptions. However, at a certain point, quantity can have a certain quality all it's own.

Thank you. I think having the title and keeping it for SOME time counts for a lot.
