Not seen many of his fights, however following him on twitter you can tell that he is a hard grafter and lives for the game. Don't think i've ever read a tweet that involves going out or anything other than grafting. It is how it should be, graft, nut down, getting big fights.
i follow him and you're right that's all it is, everything about how much running and sparring he does and bar the odd little gripe about track work what comes across is that the lad genuinely loves what he does and takes the game seriously
His obsession with Cleverly is embarrassing. He had his shot and got beat. I thought he was quite gracious in defeat after the fight. But since admitting defeat after the fight. He then went on to say he definitely won 6 rounds. And then he won the fight. He can't go through an interview without mentioning his name. He should concentrate on his own career and forget about Cleverly for the time being.
to be fair a lot of it is him being asked about cleverly by the people interviewing him, there's an obvious rivalry there and personally i think it's good that it gets talked up as it makes the fight bigger and more people will switch onto boxing, and it was a very, very close fight I personally want to see it again!!!
bellew didn't seem to think he won the cleverly fight after the fight was over, which could explain why he was sulking in the corner while cleverly was out celebrating in bellews backyard in front of his own fans. He's beaten a row of domestic level opponents, call me synical but i dont see anything impressive in struggling with ovil mckenzie and then claiming 12 rounds of **** was sweet science in a rematch. he later went on to fight a paper champion. people mock cleverly as an overrated fighter with little skills. yet ESB's bumboy couldn't put on a convincing display and the TS hails him as UK's most skilled fighter. If bellews is englands most skilled fighter then I'm the reincarnation of a prime Steve Tikolo
do you not think his performancest are getting better then? Lets not forget he broke his hand very early on in the cleverly fight and still gave a good account of himself. In the first fight against mckenzie i thought he wasnt going past british level but he seems to be going more to his boxing now rather than just thinking he is a 'smashing machine' as he once put it himself.
i'm being neutral when i say this i dont see anything world class in a fighter beating the likes of mcintosh and looking good in flashes against a fighter of cleverlys standard. its appaling how ppl build him up to be more then he actually is which is a Ok british level domestic fighter(This is all he's shown so far in his career nothing more nothing less) the day he starts beating legitimate world rated fighters in the top 10 i'll reasses my opinion but i think his success will only take him as far as euro-level
One thing I notice on here is that beating American opponents seems to often be held as synonymous with beating world-class opponents. An American contender can beat a few domestic opponents and be hailed as the next best thing, while a Brit can beat a similar number of European opponents, of the same kind of level, yet he'll be referred to as Euro-level. As for Bellew; I'd not seen much of him prior to the Cleverly fight. What I'd seen had led me to think he was a cocky scouse gobshite. With hindsight I'll happily admit I seem to have been mistaken. I thought he came across well both before and after the Cleverly fight, and he seems very grounded on here. How far he can go, I don't know, but he has a decent work ethic which can only be applauded and appreciated. Also, how he managed to not punch Vince Cleverly's teeth down his throat is beyond me. He must have the patience of a saint.
He's from Liverpool isn't he? Read everything I wrote; I already said I seem to have been mistaken. 'Seem' to be, because I'm a long way from being able to say I know what the guy's like, but from what I've seen since then, he seems real down-to-earth. You ****-stirrer.
Boxing would be a better place if We had more Tony Bellews, a fighter who wears his heart on his sleeve and is Game to take on all comers .Yes some of his previous fights he was knockdown ,but i beleive that comes from him trying to look for a ko and maybe getting sloppy1 but im sure those lessons have been learnt ,but he more than showed his class when he went rtwelve with cleverly who a lot of people fancied to ko Bellew . hope you read this tony as it would be crime if he thought he wasent appriciated !
What I'd seen had led me to think he was a "cocky scouse gobshite" before the cleverley fight you said. and now im a **** stirrer ok bud :good Iv been following the kid well before the cleverley fight thats why i picked you up on what u said were not in school
Yeah, and I stand by that. It's a combination of my own premature judgement and the way things like press conferences and weigh-ins are edited for TV, for dramatic effect. If you bother to read what I said, you'll see that I admit to having changed my opinion. What exactly is wrong with that? And you're right, we're not in school, so no need for the "I followed him longer" type nonsense.
