Who has the best most impressive win over Hopkins

This type of comment is getting irritating. Its like losses don't count unless they're 'decisive' when talking about Hopkins. Its getting used as a positive when discussing his legacy; so what if it was close - he still lost!

 

All I would say for sure is if your answer is "Dawson", you're just an *******.

 

Roy Jones. The wily, older Hopkins was a different sort of fighter that posed a different sort of problem to overcome, but if anything that fight would have been even easier for that Jones as his atletic advantage would be even more obvious.

Calzaghe also had a good win, even though he looked awful doing it. His advantage was workrate and stamina, and he did everything he could to make it count. If Hopkins doesn't empty his whole bag of tricks, he likely would have been stopped due to an emtpy tank.

The "impressive" thing about the Calzaghe win is that he did it without much of an athletic advantage. Two great ring generals making their standout attributes count. Had Calzaghe fought at Hopkins pace, there's no doubt in my mind he would have lost. But he didnt. He took chances continually, counting on his chin and workrate. Smart move.

Calzaghe and Jones would have been a sight to see. Joe likely gets stopped in this one, but if he doesn't things could get uncomfortable for Jones. Big dog, but a live one.

 

Fights that aren´t won by at least 4 points in a ten point must systems should be seen as a draw IMO.

Well I think Taylor beat him when he was slightly past best and I think jones beat him when he was slightly pre-prime.

Taylor edged the second on my cards and lost the first. Jones won pretty comfortably.

I'm gonna go with Jones because even though hopkins was a superstar when Taylor beat him, he was 40 and the victory was very close.

And he was robbed in that one. Hopkins' best years were probably roughly from the Mercado rematch to, and including, the Trinidad fight in my book. He was gaining in experience and had relatively little physical decline.

Everything considered, Roy Jones win was the best.

 

By my cards (and I've watched and scored all of the contentious fights more than once), Hopkins' record should be 56-3-1 instead of 52-6-2 (ignoring the NCs).

He lost his debut, and then I have him losing to Roy Jones and Chad Dawson, drawing one of the fights with Jermain Taylor, and beating Taylor the other time, winning the drawn fight with Pascal, beating Calzaghe, and winning the drawn fight with Segundo Mercado.

Considering the longevity and the opposition, a record of 56-3-1, with no losses between 1993 and 2012... this is a very, very special record indeed.
