No way can anyone say Ward ducked Bute. Ward ain't need that fool. He was moppin up the S6 while Bute was milkin his strap fightin whoever else was around durin the 2 yrs the series was goin on.
Ward also said he wanted to gain all the titles at SMW, someone has something you want, surely you go get it? I don't personally think Ward ducked Bute due to it not making any sense, but the fact he didn't chase him is just weird to me, it would have been his largest payday, a unification bout against an impressive looking champion, and this was rejected for Bute to prove himself? even worse he said he was disappointed and wanted to fight Bute when Bute signed for another bout in order to meet Wards criteria. Even a Ward fan must admit his actions were at least questionable. (I'm far from a Bute fan)
I've been watching Bute vs Bika and Bute vs Froch. Bute boxed bika and tried to slug with Froch. Huge mistake. Bute can make the adjustments he needs to get passed froch. IT will be hard but it is possible. And if he does get past Froch then he`d be a better fighter then if he fought ward. Also IMO don`t be so sure that Bad Chad won`t beat ward. If I was just analyzing skills and styles I would say that Chad wins and makes it easy. Problem is one guy has all the intangibles (ward) and the other has none of them (dawson). So i can`t say what`ll happen. Only that I won`t be surprised if Ward gets beat in front of his own fans.
Please, Froch is a far better boxer then Bika. Bute has no head movement, i guarantee Froch stops him again.

This is a very good thread! I could go on and on about why Bute wasn't in the S6, or how he did make the count against Andrade... People are forgetting about the facts here. If Ward was truly down to unify all the belts and prove himself for what everyone thought was going to be a super fight, he would of fought Bute...but he didn't. At the time Bute was thought to be VERY dangerous, and Ward was not really sure about him and wanted to play it safe (which he did). Ward's plan worked. But for the Op's question, YES it was a tactical duck! Nothing more, nothing less... It is what it is and it is/was pretty clear. Remember what a huge disappointment it was when he basically refused.
