Floyd's virtuoso performance here was so entertaining to watch, though I can see why SOME people can think of this fight as somewhat boring. People who watch boxing for boxing should never find this boring, only the ones who watch boxing for KO's will find this boring. Discuss.
Because it looked like he hurt Baldomir in the very first round, and instead of going in for an action fight that should have been easy given the skill dichotomy and speed differential, Floyd chose to limit engagement with movement and always staying out of range. Of course he was able to land at will, but he could have landed much more damaging things. Just a complete mismatch that was played too safe. Floyd did the right thing if he feels Baldomir could hurt him ... but I don't think Baldomir could, it was playing it safe just to play it safe. A dull, nondramatic performance, but of course it displays Floyd's control. this is how I feel about a lot of Benitez' fights: great skill, boring as ****.
Modern judging gives too much credit for movement and pitty pat punches that dont do anything (- Pac-Bradley, for a bad example) and Floyd risked falling into that pattern in this fight at times - his punches weren't as meaningful as they were against Gatti, against Ndou or Ortiz. He kind of played it inexplicably safe against Marquez, too. If he had less precision he might give up rounds with movement, but his accuracy and control of range lets him stay in control with even a limited output.
I love the sweet science... That fight was boring though! Void really stunk out the joint.. It wasn't ppv worthy!
Crap fight, Even though he was controlling the fight, he was playing it safe and made it a boring fight.
he clearly got baldomir hurt several times however opted to bring out his safety pin for the fight.....
Floyd broke his hand early on in the fight so wasn't able to sit put much power in his punches. Masterful performance though.
Because it was a massacre! :rofl If I remember correctly, it was such a beating, Floyd broke Baldomir's orbital bone (ala Margarito)
Because Baldi was never anything but tough. PBF was/is supposed to be the second coming of fuggin' boxing Christ and he's gonna' fight Baldomir?
I can appreciate Floyd schooling Baldo on youtube, but if I had paid $60 to watch that on PPV I would be p!ssed off.
