Boxing is just a bit of fun for him, earn a few quid extra before doing something else.

He's probably the most gifted sportsman on the planet, he'd have been the best rugby league player in history if he'd stuck with it, but fancied a go at union for the money and bagged a world cup winners medal.

Wouldn't surprise me to hear him say he wanted to have a go at football or cricket next.

I read he's going back to rugby league after he plays with some Japanese team. Could be bollocks though.

Thats a bit over the top! A great rugby player he is but hes not even the best NZ centre let alone the most gifted sportsman on the planet.

Katie Taylor is a more gifted sportsperson than SBW.

    I'm not sure.

I think league is his staple and the sport he's best at, but with the salary caps in league both in Europe and down under he'd have to settle for a relatively low wage.

He could play anywhere though, full back, in the back row.... he's got everything it takes. The only area that he falls down a bit is rucking, but the union he was playing in France for megabucks was little better than park rugby.

If he'd gone straight into their system from leaving league he'd have got the development in that he needed.

I've been watching league for over 20 years, and I've never seen a player with his ability, an unbelievable player.

He's a bit of a George Best type without the alcoholism, in that he's too talented for his own good, IMHO.

Yeah he has a "gentlemans agreement" with Sydney Roosters to go back there next year after his japanese adventure (1.5mil US for 13 games!!!). He is only back at the roosters for 1 yr rumored to be on 1mil for the 1 yr contract and can box as well.

I live in Jozi and am thinking of going to watch this for entertainment value, seen a couple of his fights before on youtube and all I can say the NZ heavyweight scene does a disservice to Jake Da Muss, no speed too many weights hahahaha. Sonny Bill great athlete but against Frans I think overmatched, reckon its an unofficial exhibition for both of them.

Weekend in Durban is always good though.

He might be serious about boxing even though he is a top rugby player. Anthony Mundine made the switch so not inconceivable that he wants to take it seriously. If he smashes Botha (unlikely I know) he might get serious about it

Cant wait to see him back in Rugby League. Even though the way he left the bulldogs was a **** take it will be exciting to see him back in the NRL.

NRL just signed a new TV deal worth over $1 billion. Super Rugby (Union) gets nowhere near that amount!!

How much are teams allowed to spend each year?

Over here it's around £1.8m, not sure what that equates to in Aussie dollars.

The $1bn is a massive deal, is that over ten years?

I'd have thought Union would be pretty close, I know it's not all that big in Oz but in NZ and SA it's like a religion.

  11. Haye should fight this Twat and hayemaker him so bad he's not allowed to play contact sports again

Union is about a tenth of the size of Rugby league in Australia.... Only the elite rich play union, that's why the Aussies are so **** at Union.

SBW will get a big shock coming back to Rugby league being out of the game for 4 years...... Lots of young hungry talented guys coming through.

Botha will be paid to take a drive :hey

I haven't seen this Kiwi fight. I will reserve my judgement until I see some video evidence.
How would he do in a prize fighter type tournament where athleticism / physical condition are more suited then skills?

lol. Round 2 at exactly 1:39 on the clip - he throws a right then spins turning his back to his opponent white colllar style.

To be fair he has some offence but absolutely zero defence.
Unless he has the cpacity and aptitude to adopt quicky to a training programme its lights out.
