Chavez is a better combination puncher than floyd, can match floyd for stamina, can match him for accuracy, is a better body puncher, a superior infighter & can cut the ring off as good as any fighter in history.

Chavez is the real deal (just like Ian Beale) & floyd has never fought anyone that`s anywhere near as good or complete as a prime Chavez.

    Chavez beats floyd.

Taylor was not faster than Mayweather. Not defensively, that's for certain.

As well as a lesser number (but still reasonable amount) of people that whoop him at 135 & 140.

Taylor took more punches than floyd, no doubt... but he also threw more punches than floyd & he threw them a fair bit faster than floyd too.

Taylor is up there with Roy Jones as possibly the fastest combination puncher on film, he definitely punches faster than fmj.

Disagree, though he was in his prime when he met DLH, he was having trouble with the weight which is why Oscar didnt want to rematch at 147 and he still has a win there weather you agree with it or not the official ruling is a W.
At 154 Nobody could beat him and thats where I believe he peaked from Thiam up to Joppy those were his best performances

He threw more punches and was faster, of course. I also feel Ivan Robinson was a hair faster and threw more punches than Mayweather.

And Robinson doesn't stand a chance in hell against Chavez. You don't stand there and try and out-combo Chavez. All Chavez needed was a decent 1-2 or a 2-3 and it'd be game over and your in survival mode.

Mayweather had very good legs and better upperbody movement than both, and would do better than most people think he would against Chavez.

    Thiam and Joppy

I'd favour Oscar, Benitez, and Hearns over Trinidad at 154. That's post-1970 leaving out guys like Walker and Robinson who floated around 154 a few fights.

None of the guys you've listed would be my choice for the closest fighter ever to unbeatable, I don't think.

But of the ones you've listed...

It's a difficult question to answer. For instance, Sugar Ray Robinson at welterweight may very well have been a more complete, more effective, and all-round better fighter than Roy Jones Jr at supermiddleweight, but whereas SRR would have extremely high-level competition from the other best ever welterweights (eg SRL, Hearns, Napoles, etc etc etc), RJJ doesn't have anywhere near that level of opposition at his weight (Toney, Ward, Calzaghe).

I think the best fighter of the ones you have listed is the lightweight Pernell Whitaker, but he was beatable at lightweight IMO, because I think the best version of Duran beats him. So Roy Jones is the closest to unbeatable then, because no-one else who has ever fought in the smw division would come close to defeating him IMO.

The honest to gods truth is we can not compare eras at all you just cant do it, its all a matter of opinion, Hearns had a Glass jaw, yes he had a monster right hand, but what happens when Titos left hook meets that jaw? do you think he walks through it?
its all a matter of opinion and that is the truth, to deny it and claim other wise well then your just not being objective. and we are not talking just Thiam and Joppy look at his performances in those fights and in the Vargas and Reid fights the man was a monster at 154

I disagree a guy like Pea Whitaker is the exactly the type of guy who would give Duran fits frustrating him throughout the fight. Whitaker was way too slick for Duran and at 135.:deal

Hearns would have stopped Reid in about 6 rounds. All you need is a decent jab and Trinidad is ****ed. Every single person that was able to jab him was able to back him up, even Joppy.

Trinidad had a puncher's chance against Hearns at 154 but that's it, because that right hand is putting him on his ass like 8 other fighters put him on his ass, then he's getting finished, Duran style.

Man your nuts if you think Chavez can match Floyd for Accuracy. Floyd hardly ever miss a shot. He is at 50% percentile and by far the most accurate punch on stats accordingly to compubox. I mean if you don't want to take compubox stat just watch any of floyd's fights. He lands.

You can make a case for body punching and i don't agree inside fighting. Floyd got much more tricks there in that zone.

    Also for consideration
Joe Louis: In my opinion the best pound for pound heavyweight. The only reason I think the modern gaints such as Lewis, Bowe and the brothers Klitschko beat him is size not talent.

Benny Leonard: At 135 his only weakness is size. Even than I think that only Mayweather would beat him.

Ezzard Charles at 175 is worth a shout. Unlike a lot of fighters listed in the poll, he actually proved it against numerous world class foes. His record at that weight from late 1944-8 is amazing, with several victories over Moore, Marshall and Bivins.

Jofre at his 118 prime was supreme.
