Archie fought both Rock and Sheppard and said Sheppard was the hardest hitter he ever faced. Sheppard is usually overlooked cause he was more like a 'gate keeper' during Louis's reign. He wasn't a great boxer but he sure could hit hard and apparently his chin wasn't too shabby either (gone the distance with Archie, JJW & Lloyd Marshall).

Surf-Bat posted a story by Sheppard's manager telling how Sheppard might have been responsible for the death of Harry Bobo after he iced him during a sparring session. Apparently Bobo was out for hours and complained about headaches frequently after that session. Don't remember the details about the story but it was a spar so they could be wearing headgear, you know...

No man, I said Archie, who fought both Marciano (Rock) and Sheppard, claimed Sheppard hit harder. Don't know about George though. Sheppard had a mean build but was way too small for a HW, and George was a monster of a physical specimen.

Satterfield is a good call when it comes to small HW's... He was a frontrunner, but he had real grenades.

He gets overlooked quite a bit.

Well how close in power wise is Louis and Marciano..Both fighters were KO artist..I believe The Rock hit harder but just how close was Joe's power to his?...Or someone like Cooney. How does his power compare to either of these fighters

Well, as a 140lb'er, he has respectable power, dangerous, but not consistently one-punch KO power.

He never fought at welter, so that's a non-issue. He was actually a LW that went to 140 because he was ducked by the big names there, so he went north. He could easily make 135.

I take that back. He fought at welter, but he was done. Washed up. Coked up.
