The size difference is not that great. Louis is taller and Tyson would have at best, 20 lbs which would be significant. He might have 10 which probably wouldn't.
There's no chance it would be a let down in any way. No way these guys' styles and mentalities wouldn't allow that. I immediately say Tyson whips him fast, like within 3 or 4 rounds, but Tyson's power and danger fades the higher you go up the quality scale of opponents, and Louis is of the highest quality. I really wouldn't be surprised at any outcome, and I won't take a firm position in any way. Tyson does hold distinct advantages over Louis: Chin, Defense (head movement), early ferocity. Louis' advantage is that his power is proven at the highest level. To the probable disagreement of others, I view their power equal, jabs equal, combination equal, and handspeed equal. If Louis can smother and spoil while landing his own to get some respect early while Tyson blows off steam and can prevent him from getting anywhere, he wins. Tyson's knockout losses were from terrible, consistent, one-sided beatings over many rounds.
to Go after Joe Louis like that would be a very dangerous thing, a very dangerous thing...This would not be Buster Douglas, this would not be Danny Williams, this would Kevin McBride.....Louis had power like Lennox Lewis but was a better counter puncher and power combo puncher...Tyson may fold his tent
Of course it would be a letdown after Tyson blitzed and knocked out Louis in the first 30 sec. Seriously, you are putting prime Mike in the ring with a cruiser. It would be entertaining until the first shot landed by Tyson
I don't think Louis had firepower like Lennox. Lennox def had a much more heavier shot. All that weight an levarage.
Tyson blitzes Louis out early, probably in the 1st round. I have immense respect for Louis but this might be his worst possible fantasy matchup (Including Ali where at least he possesses a puncher's chance). If this fight were to go even longer than a round with Louis railing shots on Tyson people are going to be incredibly impressed with Tyson's chin and how overlooked it gets.
even a ruined tyson took huge shots for 8 rounds against a 6foot5 250 pounds lewis, an though he did get hurt it almost seemed like he was just exhasted when he finally went
Tyson by KO in a few rounds. Bigger, stronger and faster. Mike Tyson also takes a better punch. Tyson coming in low with headmovement and counterpunching would be his ticket. Taking away Joe Louis leverage. Louis didnt have the best footwork or balance. Joe could stop him in his tracks if he catches him right but between the two Mike`s punches are gonna do more damage.
I've heard numerous times it wasn't that good because he was stopped three times. I've heard many claim Frazier was more durable. I know it sounds silly, but it's actually not a rare opinion. I am of the opinion that Tyson can pretty much easily take a great shot from Louis if need be. Tyson's head-movement was so phenomenal I don't think Louis would be able to uncork a combination in time (Even with all his speed and shortness of punches). Louis has been downed and hurt against far lesser fighters. Truthfully, this is such an awful matchup for Louis that I don't think it's unreasonable to suggest it's incredibly unlikely that Louis would win. Not even far-fetched to say he wouldn't make it past round 2. I would bet a lot of money assuming the odds weren't anything past 5/1 territory for Tyson.
