I hate to rain on the ***** parade here but I really find it hard to understand that the timing of this:

    is better than this:

Floyd's was superbly executed no doubt.
But Hatton was visibly worn down when the check hook landed, plus he was throwing an obviously weak ass punch, while diving in head first.
Pac was moving backwards when he saw the opening on a still very fresh Hatton and took advantage of it in a split second.
Committing to a hook like that and still having the agility to roll under the punch that you just beat requires serious timing, speed and accuracy.

I find Donaire's left hook better, TBH:

    Agree.

Pacquiao on Hatton may be the punch of the decade.

    Curry-McCrory is my personal favourite.

Its insanely fast even in slow motion, I love the way Don slips inside the jab to close the distance & lands the perfect shot.

That whole fight is a clinic on how to deal with a taller opponent with a good jab, Curry was a great technician.

You don't understand what a check hook is. The key is the word "check."
The hook is used to protect against an opponent who is lunging in. After throwing it, you pivot and move one leg to the side, like a matador with a bull, letting your opponent harmlessly fall past you. It doesn't just happen, it requires a split-second set-up by the fighter.

    Floyd-Hatton is textbook example.

Pac simply threw a well-timed punch. Heck, not even a counter, really. It was a lovely, powerful thing, but not a check hook. Yes, he took a step back, but only to land his back foot, so as to add power to the punch. If that punch had not been so effective, Hatton might have KO'd Manny because Manny was still right in front of Hatton, wide open for a right. Yes, he moved sideways afterwards, but not right away.

Floyd, on the other hand, actually lured Hatton forward before executing the hook (you can't see this in your clip) because it was a PLANNED check hook. Then immediately after the punch, look where Floyd ended up. Completely out of harm's way.

    That's the brilliance of Mayweather.

I see. I understand the defensive brilliance of what May did.
Although this thread is about the "best hook" (or the way I interpreted it, best hook coming from a fighter's lead hand) so I won't add points simply because it was a check hook.
I was specifically thinking of a hook with perfect timing, evasion before and after it was thrown, where it landed (accuracy) and of course, power; thus putting Pac's KD hook of Hatton over Mayweather's.
And also why I even favor Donaire's hook that landed on Montiel over Mayweather's check hook of Hatton.

Oh and I recall watching Roach after Pac's demolition of Hatton saying that they practiced that counter right hook in camp so I it really was a planned and well timed counter (not a check hook obviously).
It was not coincidental that Pac stepped to his right after rolling under -- it was part of the tactic.
