God luck to the lad shame it didnt happen for him at the Olympics thought he was a nailed on medal was peaking at the right time felt nerves got to him a little bit. Plenty have left their mark in the pro game starting late having had a top am background. Antonio Tarver and Nate Campbell most recently and of course the Cubans.
Nice lad but don't think he will be able to adapt his style to the pro game at 29. Hope he does well though
What the **** is up with people banging on about his age, he is not terminally Ill. He has been boxing for years, amateur boxing/professional boxing, boxing is boxing at the end of the day. He can have a good 5-6 years atleast!! and have a go at the British/European titles........because I don't think he is good enough for world level.
**** all wrong with being British/European level it's nearly said as an insult for some reason while in reality it's some achievement.
If Tom stays at Light Welterweight then I can see him doing well in the Pro's, pretty weak division if you look at the top 10 British rankings. Tom has quite a big following already and I am expecting him to sign with Maloney and be on Big Priceys undercards, big big nights ahead at the Echo.
How the **** is 29 too old?! Bull**** is it...Calzaghe didnt hit his prime to mid 30's, neither did Hopkins, and middle 30's Froch is in his He been boxing since he is a kid so he has the skills, say 2 years max he could reach British title standard he would still be 31 with around 3 - 4 years still left in him possibly more. Too old my arse
In fairness amateur and pro boxing are as different as cricket and baseball. fundamentally there the same but success at one does'nt neccessarily mean success at the other
Tom will do well as a pro, he didn't start boxing until he was 19 I think. His style will need to change quite a bit but he is a good counter puncher and will win rounds. Can't see him getting many knockouts.
