**** thread. His parents are Irish, and he clearly regards himself as such. I remember even before his first pro bout he described himself 'as Irish but representing Great Britain'.

So you're willing to descend to the op's level? Don't fight ignorance with ignorance.

This is Macklin all over again.....

    How about this:

My dad is Irish, my mum is English.
I was born in London, raised in Kent.
I have been to Ireland twice, 4 weeks altogether.

    I'm ****in' ENGLISH!!!!

Being Irish, I for one am not trying to claim him. In fact, I'm actively encouraging the English to endorse him and take him off our hands.

Let's be honest here though, no one side is trying to claim this joker. Fury says he's Irish when he's over here selling tickets, and says he's English when he's over there. Either way I'll not be paying to see him.

considering how the irish have claimed him i dont have one casual mate who would have heard about him, he is relatively unknown here compared to england where he fights on CH5 etc, travelleres are discriminated against more than any other ethnic group in ireland so i dont think he will ever be welcome here, why do you think most of our travellers are on halting sites in england and not here

I suspect his background probably means he has 'Irish blood' in him. But nationally can be very subjective, I mean where do you start? The simple answer would be to say we are all Ethiopian...

Using background to make a few more Pounds, Euros or Dollars is not exactly new.

Fitzsimmons became an American citizen to fight Corbett. Lennox rediscovered his East-end routes after winning a gold medal under the maple leaf flag, and they are but two of many...

He's both, If he prefers to call himself Irish then that's fine. I'll still be a fan of his!.

The kid gets racially abused in this country with slurs such as pikey and gypo and such like, any chance people have on here to have a go at him they do. I don't blame him if he wanted to get away from here and progress elsewhere.

My dad's side of family are from Glasgow, I'm born in South London. I'm proud to be a Londoner but i also have Scot's blood running through my veins. I don't understand why people want to bracket themselves anyways..

Agree with this and it really ****ing riles me up as well.

Fury is a good kid, he's coming along well.

watch him do well in the next 12 months and all these flip-floppers start jumping on the bandwagon
