There's no need to get rude and talk down to me

For the record, he was training for a bout at LHW

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/boxing/7015378.stm

So coming from LHW to SMW, just like Chad Dawson

Nice way to twist it, but I'm guessing you haven't seen the Collins fights? or the Thompson fights? Because all were very close, and Eubank was unlucky not to get the decisions at least once against Collins, and against Thompson in the first fight. He was winning the second until the corner stoppage.

How did Team Calzaghe choose him, when it was a fight for a vacant title? :patsch

Nope, going off your agenda. You can do this to just about any fighter, you seem to have real problems with Calzaghe which means this is becoming a waste of time, I'm done with this

So the quality of the fighter is not important, only his record at the weight is?

Dawson has beaten Hopkins, Johnson twice, Tarver twice, Adamek and Diaconu.

Bute has beaten Johnson, Andrade, Bika, Miranda, Mendy, Magee.

Dawson has clearly proven to be the more skilled, more high-level fighter in his career. He is coming off a win over Hopkins; if Ward had fought Bute when Froch did, Bute was coming off a win over Johnson (who lost his fight before and would lose his fight after).

I am assuming by your logic that you'd consider a win for Sergio Martinez over Felix Sturm higher than a win for Sergio Martinez over Floyd Mayweather in a mw title fight? :think And that Hagler vs Alan Minter was a better win than Hagler-Hearns?

Come on man.

Dawson has an 8-12 week training camp to make 168lbs.

Eubank got the Calzaghe fight at ELEVEN days notice.

You don't consider there a difference between having 8-12 weeks to make a target weight, and having 11 days to make the change?

Weird.

He lost all four fights. He lost twice to Collins, then two full years past, then he fought Calzaghe at 168, then moved to 190lbs afterwards, and got beat twice by a fighter not close to the same quality level as he'd been at his best. These are just the facts.

You seriously think ****** wasn't consulted about who could sell some tickets at 11 days notice? Naive. It's not as if Eubank was a legitimate contender at the time, because he wasn't. How does a guy deserve a title shot when he hasn't beaten any top 10 fighters in three full years, and has only had two exhibition fights against journeymen in the the past two years, and has lost his last two fights against top 10 opposition? How on earth does that make him a legit title challenger? :huh

 Do you seriously think that if Manny Pacquiao had won a world title in the exact same circumstances, that I'd consider it a great win? Please. I'm a bit more objective and rational than you/that.

If Pac beat a guy who:

- hadn't beat any top 10 fighters in 3 full years
- had lost his last 2 fights with top 10 comp
- had only had two exhibition fights vs journeymen in the past 2 years
- changed target weight to lower division at 11 days notice
- jumped 2 weight classes for his next fight
- lost his next 2 fights then retired

Trust me, I would NOT be rating the win highly at all!! :patsch

Jones by a mile.

if anyone thinks fighting a guy with a set of grandad lungs who can throw for 5 rounds max is going to be harder than when they can blast out punches 12 rounds, they need their heads seeing to.

Yeah, I'm baffled really. Some here suggests that Hopkins was a better fighter against Calzaghe than against Jones. Amazing.

Jesus. Just watch the fight. He had declined substanstially both physically and technically by the time he fought Calzaghe.

Hopkins is no longer a technician. Hasn't been for years. His technique while attacking is absolutely woefull nowadays. He's a fantastic ring general, but that's it.

Against Jones, he shows both excellent technique and ring generalship. It's right there on film!

How on earth can he be called green when you just have to watch the film and see him fight as a true pro? Ffs, people break this down to a theoretical argument about amateur pedigree and number of pro fights, quality of previous opposition etc, when all they have to do is to actually watch the fight.

I agree, it is overlooked how sloppy B-Hop had become as an offensive force by 2005-2008. He would basically often flail forward with his head down, winging punches and looking for the clinch. You would never have seen the prime 96-02 Bernard fighting like that. 93 Hop was not prime yet, he did still have to develop, but I agree with you that he was a more potent force all round than the blunted, toothless, tired 08 version, despite the additionl tricks and experience he'd picked up by then.

I think a lot of people think B-Hop must have been raw and green in 93 purely because it came before the Mercado draw, but not only was that fight in adverse conditions, Hopkins clearly won the fight and got jobbed anyway. See the Mercado rematch for how that fight would have gone under normal circumstances.

True.

Even in his earliest available footage Hopkins looks excellent.

Actually, much better than many great fighters whose early footage is available.

As I said earlier, I normally consider Hopkins to have reached his best years with the win against Mercado in the rematch, but truth be told I don't see any big differences between that version and the one that faced Jones. I think he fought very well, put up a better fight than almost any other opponent did against Jones when he was in his physical prime, but Roy was just too quick. He was just too much of a physical freak.

But unlike Toney, I think Hopkins can hold his head high looking back at the fight. He fought the right fight and did it as well as he could.

I agree with every single word. Chad is a big lHW and will be a corpse at SMW.

Pre-Froch, Bute was the fight that we wanted to see. And stylistically he'd pose problems for Ward, who lacks the punch to dissuade Bute and in order to smother him would have to gauge some odd angles against a man who can time counters quickly, with force.

No need for it now, and he should've move up to the more prestigious division IMO, he only needs to not cut weight an he'd be a good sized and strong light heavy I imagine.

Dawson would still be easily handcuffed: low workrate, round coaster, poor ring intelligence for the most part, modest and unspectacular dig.

This fight sucks.

I agree with Popkins though, Eubank was primed for a cruiserweight fight; cutting to 168 with that amount of notice will seriously sap your strength, and Eubank was past his best at that point.

One of Calzaghe's best wins though. Which says an awful lot.

Hopkins showed better technical ability and form against Pavlik than he did against Jones.

Ward v Dawson is a great fight imo. It's rare for people to move down with success but seeing two p4p rated people fight in their prime is always a great thing.

No, it's a shocking fight IMO. How the Hell is a low output guy like Dawson gonna' operate at 168lbs?!

Hopkins has probably been on TRT since the Calzaghe fight. Why not?

We'll find out on fight night how he'll operate at 168.

But having the smw champ and the lhw champ fighting each other whilst both are prime is clearly a good thing.
