Bowe had a very short shelflife. Laziness, a porous defense and perhaps a bit of fragility led to his short stay at the top. Maybe on his best night he could beat a good version of Lewis, but each at their peak, Lewis has too much for him.
Yes. Although Lennox's right hand is one of the most powerful imo, his fights with Mercer, Macrovic, and a shot Tyson, show that people with iron chins can survive (exclude Tyson, but his chin display was remarkable) and weather the storm. Lewis can also be troubled by advanced technical skilss ala Bruno. Who knows this couldve turned into a SRL Hearns situation where Bowe outboxed Lewis for stretches and Lewis was slugging just a thought. Anyway I think with big men like this the inside game and chin of Bowe will make the difference. BTW I agree about the olympic match, the way people talked about it even Sugar and Kenny I thought Lewis beat the **** out of Bowe. When I saw the match I was like wtf? Anyway I like Bowe by stoppage.
how do you know bowe was scared and lewis had his number?, i dont believe him pulling out of the fight with lewis was because of fear, but because of bowe's manager and his own self stupidity
Saw it the night it happened. Anyone following the sport pays attention and looks forward to the gold medal heavyweight title fight. What I saw was a competitive matchup and going into it, very few people knew much about Lewis. I did and thought he'd fought much the better competition and really thought of Bowe as more of a NYC guy and they always got a lot of publicity. But the seasoning edge was big for Lewis. As for the fight, close first round and edge to Bowe. 2nd round Bowe gets clipped with a pretty big right hand and does not react well. He froze and the ref jumped in. No complaint from Bowe and certainly none from his corner as they went in to grab him. A big loss in a high pressure bout. If he gets tagged by another big right when froze, that could have been devastating. Ref has the best view in the house and saw something he did not like with Bowe. Statistically, what is it, somewhere in the 75% range for the guy losing the first bout by ko for the rematch. Should be a 50-50 kind of thing but 75% chance for losing is certainly not a statitistic to shrug off. It just boils down to the guy losing via decision has so much less to overcome.
I like Lewis, at most stages of their careers, and if they both meet on their better nights. Anything could happen here. Bowe might have at one brief window of his pro career where I would pick him to win. The Bowe who pasted Holyfield in the early 1990's, I think would beat Lewis. At that point in time Lewis was far from a finished fighter who had some balance issues which were later corrected by Manny Steward. Bowe's manager Rock Newman did not want this fight. In fact Newman who wanted to match Bowe vs the winner of Foreman vs Morrison backed out of Bowe vs. Morrison. The fight would have done very well on PPV.
Mmmm...Styles make fights and Lewis always performed in the acid tests, remember Golota?? LewisKO4Bowe
Lewis looks very good because he beat the two collapsed big names Tyson and Holyfield. But where was Lewis when Tyson and Holyfield were dangerous ? The total out of shape Tucker,Bruno and V. klitoris were Lewis' best tall opponents and he wasn't impressive at all. Bowe was lucky against Golota. I think the better chin is the key factor in this question. Who has the better chin ?
Hmm... I don't care Holyfield's opinion at all.To me he is a jealous bulked chicken.I think this guy can't stand Tyson is genetical stronger than him.I can believe strongly Holyfield has mental problem. Otherwise Mathis fought Bowe and Tyson. Mathis: "Tyson has the power, Bowe has the skill."
Bowe takes out Lewis. Lewis hid behind the WBC and played hardball knowing Bowe would be stripped. He dumped the belt before they were going to strip him , not because he was afraid of Lewis. Bowe feared no man.
The poll says it all. 8 for Bowe, and 22 for Lewis. That fool couldn't even get the better of his wife when he kidnapped her.
92/95 Bowe would have been too much for a Lewis who was still green and quite clearly learning his trade, by 96 Bowe was showing signs of regression and Lewis would have taken him on or around that point....
