We all know Carl Froch doesn't duck anybody check this gauntlet of world class opponents out- Jean Pascal, Jermaine Taylor, Andre Dirrell, Mikkel Kessler, Arthur Abraham, Glan Johnson, Andre Ward, Lucian Bute

Several divisions down however Abner Mares is on a similar path of his own, check out his last 5 fights-

:bbb Draw with Yohnny Perez (which should of been a win)
:bbb SD win over Vic Darchinyan
:bbb MD win over Joseph Agbeko
    :bbb UD win over Agbeko
    :bbb UD of Eric Morel

and next up vs Anselmo Moreno. Should he win that, he'll likely try and land a fight with the Donaire-Nishioka winner.

He gets underrated in my opinion more due to Russell Mora poor officiating in the 1st Agbeko fight than any fault of his own, and he then went on to set the record straight in a rematch with King Kong.

It's about time we started giving Mares the kudos he deserves!

The kid has guts i'll give him that.

Moreno's slick spoiler style will make Mares look bad even if Abner ends up winning, but give credit to the kid he fights everybody we need more fighters like him. unfortunately dont see him fighting Donaire due to the to TR and GBP not doing business together.

He'd been much better off in Top Rank. All the bug name fighters in and around his division are Top Rank

Eric Morel isn't a top tier fighter, but nonetheless, Mares has fought some stiff competition. If he fights Donaire, Moreno, etc. then he will be on the level of Carl Froch.

Wrong, Morel is a top fighter, he was rated number 6 at Bantamweight by the ring before Mares fought him plus he's a two weight world champion. That is like saying we should say Froch's run of world class opponents came to an end when he fought Glen Johnson.

Idk man. If Jmm was able to land some fights with Pacman, Abner when he becomes a free agent can fight Nonito his Team would just have to time it right. Most likely he might go back to GBP afterwards. Cotto did something similar when he fought Floyd, didn't he? As long as one fighter is a free agent the fights can be made. The 2 rival companies won't have to deal directly with each other.

Mares will be a little less healthier though when Moreno finishes the paintjob over his face.

Nah, Eric Morel hadn't beaten anybody of note in years. He lost to Gerry Penalosa, and there is a reason why some books had Mares as high as a ten to 1 favorite versus Eric Morel. Morel just isn't that good, he's not world class. Glen Johnson on the other hand had beaten a couple of quality contenders of Allen Green, and Yusaf Mack, plus lost in a very close fight before the Froch fight. So, no, that comparison isn't right either.

Mares and Froch don't have bums thrown in between their standard of world class opponents such as Eric Barcelona and Evans Mbamba as Darchinyan fought in 2010 and 2011
