Said he wants Mayweather Jr. next. Here's my list of opponents I want to see him fight: 1. Andre Ward if he beats Dawson at a catchweight of 165. 2. Mayweather Jr. if he beats Pacquiao at 154. 3. Gennady Golovkin/Proksa winner at 160. 4. Miguel Cotto at 158 (the same weight he fought Paul Williams II) 5. Bernard Hopkins Jr. at 168. 6. Anthony Dirrell at 168. I want to see Martinez fight top notch fighters or big money names. Why would he fight Pavlik or anybody else in the middleweight division unless they were serious about contesting his title. I like Peter Quilin and I hear good things about Pirog but they need to increase their resume before becoming acceptable opponents. With the exception of Miguel Cotto (who always gives a good show) or Mayweather Jr. I don't think he should go down in class and should instead go up. He can fight a lot of SMWs that are talented.
Hopkins and Dirrell, wtf? Dirrell is a non factor in boxing, except on twitter, and hopkins is a lhw. Sergio is too little for Ward, he would lose that. Mayweather maybe, or Felix Sturm as long as he wins at middlweight.
Would love to see him vs Mayweather just because he is something different to what mayweather has faced in the past
would be a good farewell fight for Hopkins, who's planning one more fight from what I've been reading, I doubt he'd go below 160 to fight Floyd or Cotto, personally I'd love to see Sergio punish Felixia Sturm for disgracing boxing
for once and f*cking all, JMW Sexio cannot go up to 168. He's too small. End of story. A fight with Alvarez at 154 or 160 would be very intriguing. Floyd will never fight him, and I can't blame him, cause he's too small for Martinez. Cotto at 154 would be interesting, assuming Sergio can still make 154.
Let's keep it realistic. Hopkins, Ward, Dirrell, etc, aren't gonna' be the type of people who Sergio is gonna' pursue. Mayweather's out of the question, too. So too are Cotto and Alvarez. He's too dangerous for them. I can't think of many people for him other than Pirog - who'll hopefully come to his senses and fight him in the US once Sergio's notability is increased further after beating Chavez. But if not that, Abraham would be a good choice. A chance for him to pick up a belt in another division? Winnable fight if he's willing to risk it. Only problem is that Abraham seems on course to be fighting Sturm or Kessler next.
Mayweather Jr. mentioned Dirrell and Martinez mentioned Mayweather which is why they are included. Martinez fighting Sturm is a waste of time. All of Martinez's opponents starting with Kermit Cintron were better. Martinez is a small middleweight but he's fast and talented enough to fight bigger opponents and I think if Ward agreed to come down a few pounds that would be an incredible fight for P2P #1 honors.
Ward is much bigger than Martinez. He would beat Martinez' ass. Martinez has maybe two or three fights left, I'd guess. He doesn't want Pirog or any of the other unremarkable MWs. He wants $$$. His options are very limited, considering no one with any box office is willing to fight him.
As a a fan, I'd like to see him fight Golovkin. That would be an awesome fight. However, Sergio is getting long in the tooth, and probably only wants big money fights at this stage. Unfortunately for him, neither Pacquiao nor Mayweather will step in the ring with him. If he gets past Chavez Jr., his best bet to get a payday would be Cotto at a catchweight. Very winnable fight for him, too.
A fight against Alvarez at, say, 158, in Mexico City, would be EPIC. Won't happen, but it's fun to dream.
I don't see how Martinez fighting Sturm is a waste of time but the Golovkin/Proksa winner isn't. Sturm's a coddled fighter who's unlikely to ever fight Martinez anyway but he's still probably the most resume-enhancing opponent at middleweight. Golovkin and Proksa's professional bodies of work are fairly shallow, even taking into account the win one of them will get in this upcoming fight.
That would be good if he gets by JCC. I don't think it would be good for Canelo, though. In Mexico it would crazy atmosphere as well.
