Berbick is a curious case. He seemed to own a good punch resistance yet he was not only blitzed by Tyson but Bernardo Mercado as well (in the first round).

He was awkward and physically strong but his punching technique was way off and his defense was leaky to say the least. It did not always take a 220 lb man to beat him as ST Gordon, who for the majority of his career was a 185 lber, won a comfortable decision over him.

Giving Berbick his due respect, I'd say that the smaller Dempsey would have to grind down the heavier man unless he finds him with a perfect left hook early.

The Berbick who came to fight "Holmes, Ali, Page and Pinky Thomas" would've been a very tuff foe for Jack Dempsey via a time machine.... Berbick was in-shape to face Tyson, but just never fully ready for that type of 221 pound fireball of all 20 years of age...... 'Nuff said.....

Everything Tyson does Dempsey does better....even the cooler haircut! Tyson studied and admired Dempsey.....imitation is the sincerest form of Flattery. Tyson imitated but could not duplicate! Dempsey a little quicker and stronger better finnisher stops Berbick inside of 1.

Berbick would have trouble with Dempsey s power and speed, I see JD getting to him pretty quickly

I would give Berbick a very good chance in this fight. Trevor was stronger, more sturdy and a far more well-rounded boxer than the Firpo who for all intents and purposes KO'd Dempsey. I would bet a sizeable sum on this fight.

I would not try to call the round when it would happen, but I think Dempsey would have got Berbick in the early rounds.
