Arnold Schwarzenegger, the greatest bodybuilder of all time, would be laughed off the stage at todays Mr Olympia. Pele, Maradona or George Best, considered some of the greatest football (soccer) players of all time, would have rings ran round them by todays footballers. Jesse Owens, one of the most memorable names in athletics, would be embarrassed should he be transplanted into todays modern olympics. These 3 examples are just very few of thousands you could choose from the history of any sport. Sport today is a completely different animal. Nutrition, training and other advancements have these modern atheletes improving and stretching the line at what we thought was possible. This may be controversial, but i believe that one of the greatest boxers of all time, Ali, would be hammered by the like of the Klitschkos, Lewis, Bowe and other superheavys. This does not mean that Ali wasn't one of the greats, but sport and the world moves on. Frazier would be lucky to last a minute with Lewis, the same with Joe Louis, who would also be battered within a round. The Klitschkos would steamroll the like of Dempsey, Marciano, Baer etc etc. The myth of technique being somewhat better back in 'the good old days', is just that, a myth.
Terrific post, Ray Robinson wouldn't last 30 seconds with Kermit Cintron yet Cintron is a bum and Robinson the GOAT? now i'm not saying Robinson wasn't great because he was great FOR HIS TIME all i'm saying is that i'd eat my own **** if prime Robinson lasted more then 10 seconds in the ring with any version of Kermit Cintron not trying to be controversial just want people to realise the past was yesterday and the future is tomorrow. Cheers.
So you are of the opinion that the like of Dempsey and Marciano would stand a good chnace of beating Lewis or The Klitschkos?
Actually in many sports they did better results in 80s than they do nowadays. The weight-lifting records made in 80s are still to be beaten. Shot putters and discus throwers made much better results in 80s than they do now. And olympic gold metal in long jump was won by 890cm in Mexico 1968 and this year in London the winner did only 831cm. Also it is stupid to think that Maradona wouldnt be in the very top of the game if he played now. So its is not always that todays athletes are better than athlets from past era.
On how many occasions now can we say the aging warrior schooled the young lions? I've seen it so many times I lost count.
