haha 'so unknown that Roy admitted to knowing him after the Eubank fight'

Roy might well be expected to have a deep knowledge of fighters in his division, but is roy expected to fork out to buy thousands of tickets that the public arent going to buy becuase they dont know who Calzaghe is?

awesome topsy turviness. freakin amazing. But still, 11/10 for effort for carrying on with a face so torn apart in this scrap that it makes Vitali's post_lewis mug look as fresh as a new born baby's.

 well he must have had no problem forking out that money for those tickets to fight guys like Grant, Bannon and Frazier

In all seriousness, I read Jones was making £3m for standard defences of his titles against mandatories. Tickets must have sold, because that's a lot of money!

Figures like that though is why I don't really hold it against Roy for demanding a huge purse to fight Calzaghe, boxing is business, and I don't think the risk/reward ratio was worth it in this case, as has been stated, Calzaghe needed to build his profile in the US

Roy's fights sold well in the USA.

remember that Joe wanted to get into acting after retiring. If he'd fought prime roy instead of shot2**** roy, then he would have ****ed up his good looks and never have been able to star in movies, let aside a loss on his career.

    Bailey,

Have a look at this that I saw a few weeks ago.

It's from 2004, and he considered moving up to 175.

It was always in the back of his mind, it was always a consideration, but as we know he didn't make the jump til 2008.

    Tell me what you think.

I respect Woods. He had the balls to go over the water and fight a peak Roy Jones, which Joe Calzaghe did not have. Respect to Clinton for his guts, and willingness to fight the p4p king in his own backyard. That's a real fighter's mentality.

But, I don't feel sorry for him with regard to the Jones and Tarver fights. Neither Jones nor Tarver failed pre- or post-fight drug tests for those fights, and Clinton was hopelessly outclassed both times by two guys who had proven to be vastly superior fighters throughout their careers.

    :good

None of the above is true.

Calzaghe was supposed to fight Sheika back in 99, but the fight kept getting delayed because of Calzaghe's "injuries". It was set in America in early 2000 but Calzaghe then pulled out again. Sheika would go on to fight Johnson then he would later on get a shot at Calzaghe. There was no box off. Johnson said himself that he tried to fight Calzaghe at smw but Calzaghe turned him down.

Johnson-woods had nothing to do with a Calzaghe-Johnson fight. HBO wanted Calzaghe to fight Johnson. Calzaghe never wanted that fight which is why he pulled out claiming he hand was hurting and then he went and fought Manfredo who was 2-2 in his last 4 fights. A much "better" opponent then Johnson

Most his his legit injuries were self inflicted due to the fact he insisted on wrapping his own hands badly. The rest of them were phantom injuries
    lol
Dawsons pulling power had nothing to do with him getting Hopkins in the ring. The idea that Calzaghe didn't face Dawson because there was no money in it is nonsense. The networks were willing to pay big money for that fight. Showtime offered him a two fight deal for Kessler and Dawson and Calzaghe looked the other way. He always looked the other way when tough fights were put on the table
