He is a good lookin black kid too especially in his late teens and 20s w/ that million dollar cutie smile. NO HOMO

But if you are going to talk about who the real Pretty Boy is if you use the definition of not getting mark up or getting bloodied or swelled up, then the real Pretty Boy is B-Hop. Popkins never been cut and he is the harder to hit compared to Money May.

That ring name (which I still think is much better than "Money" and would've still been perfectly acceptable to use into the twilight of his career in his late thirties) was adopted from notorious early 20th century gangster Pretty Boy Floyd who was a contemporary of Dillinger, Babyface, and Capone.

Usually when boxers take names of famous historical figures similar to theirs it isn't any deeper or more clever than that surface association, but in this case it also had the added meaning of "no marks on his face".

If either condition wasn't met (the gangster having existed and made headlines to become a cultural icon decades earlier; or Mayweather being so defensively adept as to avoid any facial marking) he wouldn't have ever had the PBF name. It was thought up to be a tribute to his elusiveness, but they would have invented something else if there wasn't the historical reference there for inspiration.

I think he took the nickname from Pretty Boy Floyd (Charles Arthur Floyd, the gangster).

    Explained above. ^

Mayweather himself didn't invent it. Observers did.

They wanted a nickname that would convey his ability to not get hit.

There happened to have been a famous gangster named "Pretty Boy Floyd", so it fit on two levels. (tying in with his name, and his ability)

Did people not know that "Pretty Boy Floyd" was originally attributed to the early 20th century gangster?

Floyd even posed in a picture like the Gangster

    Money suits him better.

The original Pretty Boy was a badass gangster.

And Floyd is the opposite of badass hes more the coward type.

The one who takes it up the ass in jail.

And gets his commissary snatched by other inmates.

Got his name from his defense and coming out of a fight with no bruises and scars. And most fighters that come out of fights look like they'be been in a fight.

He went to jail in the 90's?

  15. pretty sure the term pretty boy is used because of the baby face (no homo)

then again, his defensive dominant style fits that nickname perfectly.
