I never said he was a superior tamer of big punchers. I asked a question. AliMos have answered it. This thread have achieved it's purpose. I now know, Ali have tamed more big punchers then Lennox Lewis. Thank you for the information.

 

Is it? Briggs still holds the record for the most 1st round knockouts in HW history. He's the only man to knock out the teak tough Demetrice King (who went the distance with Tua). He one punched Lyakhovich clean out the ring, a man who soaked up the best Lamon Brewster was able to throw at him for twelve rounds. He knocked Mercer unconscious with a cuffing shot. Not major accolades in a career sense, but indicative of very high level power, however biased you may be.

No he didnt it has been proven in this thread he didnt not only did Ali fought more bigger and better punchers but he also was never knocked out by one punch like Lewis was twice,but feel free to argue yourself silly.

 

I think that argument has to carry some weight, whether you agree with it or not. Foreman at 9, Shavers at 10, Liston 15 - Ali beat all of these in their prime. Tyson (#16) was a shell of himself, Lewis's highest rated opponent. Joe Frazier, at #39 (9 places ahead of Tua in that list) was another ATG Ali beat. Archie Moore is at #4 on that list, well past his best when fighting Ali but if you are counting Tyson could you count Moore for Ali's resume?

Also, the punchers Ali fought were HOF/ATG's, and he was never knocked out unlike Lewis, who was knocked out twice which you may want to take into account. The likes of Golota, Briggs, etc. wouldn't get very close to an ATG list.

I am actually a fan of Lewis, he is about 5 on my ATG HW list, but Im of the opinion that sometimes the 90's era contenders is a little over-rated, e.g. people saying Tua was a bigger puncher than Foreman, Grant was a world beater, etc. The fact that Ali fought and beat so many punchers is central to why his resume is so deep and he is widely considered the top 1-2 ATG HW.

There are plenty of ifs and buts, twat face.

Even though Shavers fought a who's who of bums weekly throughout the vast majority of his career he was still never able to attain a single KO approaching the likes of Ruiz or Moorer. Not a single bum laid flat out on the canvas, eyes glazed, unmoving and dead to the world. Tua did that three times, twice to former and future champions.

The fact that he did better than Tua in his big fights is irrelevant. Tua was a **** boxer.

He was a harder puncher than Shavers though.
