Has any HW Champ in the history of boxing beat as many big punchers as this man?

It carries some weight, sure, just not as much as a well reasoned and logical argument. And the ranking position of the fighters present should carry no weight at all, considering how skewed it is.

One doesn't have to be an HOF/ATG to be a hard puncher. Lewis fought a huge number of hard to very hard punchers throughout his career, not all of whom were great fighters, but who were all capable of putting your lights out if you were caught by them.

If there is an overrating of the 90s it's nothing compared to the overrating of other eras. The 90s legitimately contained a huge number of power punchers, this is not something built of hyperbole or myth-making, it's all clear to see on film.

IMO, as regards most power punchers fought, Ali's a close second behind Lewis, for what it's worth.

 

Post a video of Shavers knocking someone, anyone, completely unconscious.

Golota and Grant weren't exactly one punch KO artists, and Mason's KO percentage flatters him (he was a strong guy, but not a huge puncher).

Lionel Butler probably hit harder than any of them, and McCall was a dangerous puncher as well.

Vitali also isn't generally an early-rounds knockout threat against world class opposition, although the accumulation of his punches can be devastating over the long haul.

 

Boxing articles written way back when Lewis' career was still a work in progress really underrated the man's durability. Yeah, he was KOed by McCall and Rahman but he did withstand some hefty right hands from Michael Grant, Zjelko Mavrovic, Vitali Klitschko and Mike Tyson. Lewis could be KOed but anybody who fought real competitors runs the risk of that. I don't think Tua or Morrison ever hit Lewis with anything solid. Lewis was pretty good at avoiding left hooks. It was the overhan rights, right crosses that got him. The sentimentalists would **** their pants if there was a time machine and Lewis could fight some of the "ATGs" because they never saw some of the ATGs forced to back up. And Lewis could do that.

Patterson was good for his weight, but there is a cruiser division for a reason.
