    Khan expects to replace Roach

    This content is protected

Amir Khan has given his clearest indication yet that he will leave trainer Freddie Roach after recent setbacks in his career.

Khan had been emerging as one of the most marketable and talented fighters in world boxing, before a controversial defeat to Lamont Peterson (which was subsequently nullified after the American failed a drugs test) and surprise knockout loss against Danny Garcia saw him lose both his belts and much of his standing.

The Bolton fighter had previously been happy to play second fiddle to Manny Pacquiao with trainer Roach, but after the loss to Garcia has reportedly been looking to make a change.

Khan has now confirmed that is the case.

"I'm not even at my peak yet," Khan told the Star on Sunday. "I want to make a few changes and am in talks to change trainers at the moment.

"I am looking at a few names but I don't know if they are available."

Khan previously revealed that he had been approached by Manny Stewart, trainer to Wladimir Klitschko, while has also been linked with David Haye's guru, Adam Booth. The 25-year-old is looking for a trainer who will help his attacking style while shoring up his suspect defence.

Roach is in the dark about Khan's plans, having not been informed whether he has been dropped as coach or not.

"I have not heard anything official from them," the American said recently. "I heard they want to fight in December. No one has told me if I'm in or out."

Kind of sad that Roach has been left out of the loop, atleast tell the guy you're looking for a change and be done with it. Also I don't think an active fighter ever praised his trainer as much as Khan did.

I think Steward would do a good job with Khan. Like he did with Lennox and Wladmir

This is why I'm no longer a fan of Khan anymore....his lack of maturity and loyalty. He's too much of a coward to talk to Roach face to face and prefers to speak to journalists instead to get his point across.

Khan.....I hope you get sparked out for your lack of humility. I also hope you get the Mayweather fight and all that money you've been masturbating over with Vali and Co and that Mayweather obliterates you.

Not surprised this is how his camp have decided to play it. Camps run by family members without any real qualification generally end in disaster- and khans family don't seem to even have a firm grasp of either the business side (the sky debacle) or the boxing side (love him or hate him- signing a contract with ariza then stealing it back from his hotel room is a pathetic thing to do).

Pass that buck. It was all that cuban guys fault Amir. Then that american. Next it'll be.....

Khan has made himself a joke with this decision. Take responsibility for yourself inside the ropes ffs.

Its all mental with khan, as soon as he gets hit he panics and forgets everything about what he's learned. Doesn't matter what trainer he has...

I work in sales and a few years back I kept changes jobs blaminng the companies I worked for , then one day I realised it was me that needed to change . I havent looked back since.

Its Khan who needs to change , all of his trainers can do all the talk , but when the bell sounds its Khan who needs to step up.

This is how team "Khan" operate, he sacked his original trainer by posting a letter under the gym door. The whole lot are going to ruin what could still be a decent career.

Also I can't believe he talking openly about trying to find a new trainer whilst trying to keep Roach in the dark. Imagine after all his talking about replacing Freddie, Khan can't find anyone and goes back to the Wild Card. If that does happen I hope Roach tells him to feck off.

Big differences between Khan and Lewis/Wlad.

    1. Lewis/Wlad have physical advantages that Khan doesn't (size, and power).

    2. Lewis/Wlad have high ring IQ's. Khan is dumber than a bag of hammers.
