Whilst posting on another thread, you know the usual Sky v Boxnation v Primetime debate, it set me to thinking about pay-per-view and the great nights of boxing I've experienced over the years.

I really miss the great 'all nighters' Sky used to put on!

They were so good, I'd look forward to them for weeks, enjoy all the brilliantly edited adverts, and then the week of the fight the nightly build-up shows, each night presented by Paul Dempsey with a different guest eg, McGuigan, Piper, Watt etc.

Then the weigh-in, which I often found as exciting as the fights!

And on the evening I'd stock up on food and drink and watch about ten hours of live boxing, how great!

Anyway, I'm lucky enough to have a pretty decent collection of boxing, and the one night that sticks in my mind more than any other was 'Judgement Night' on the 9th November 1996.

    What a card!

It all kicked off at the Nynex Arena, Manchester:

    • Ronald 'Winky' Wright vs Ensley Bingham
    • Prince Naseem Hamed vs Remigio Molina
    • Danny Williams vs Michael Murray - 1
    • Steve Collins vs Nigel Benn - 2
    • Herbie Hide vs Frankie Swindell
    • Michael Brodie vs Miguel Matthews
Then over to the MGM Grand, Las Vegas:

    • Scott Welch vs Daniel Eduardo Netto
    • Christy Martin vs Bethany Payne
    • Henry Akinwande vs Alexander Zolkin
    • Michael Moorer vs Frans Botha
    • Mike Tyson vs Evander Holyfield - 1
The second part from America, apart form the Christy Martin fight, was all heavyweight; the Akinwande/Zolkin fight was a decent scrap, the Moorer/Botha fight was a real 'barn-burner' (as Ian Darke would say), and there is nothing that needs saying about the Tyson/Holyfield scrap!

What a night, I'll never forget it!

What about the rest of you?

    Any other great nights?!

Really does stick out in the memory.

I remeber Moorer V Botha - jabbing his head off !!!!!!!!

    What a great night.

Winky was surprise of the night coming to our shores and putting on a boxing clinic.

Of course the final event was spectulcar with holyfield doing the impossible !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

That was the PPV that used Brainbug's "Nightmare" as the main promo theme I think. Part of Sky's tie up with the Ministry of Sound. As for the boxing, I can vaguely remember this as it was the first PPV I saw on Sky. Stacked card!

if sky were prepared to do night like that then i am all for it. but last year for our £15 we were getting a half decent main event fight and nothing else.

If Sky were prepared to do in May of next year.

    UK

Froch vs Kessler II with 3 other decent title fights and then a big Mayweather PPV I would happily pay £15.

    That was a cracking night!

It was called 'Night of the Champions', and that was the one that used the 'Nightmare' music.

The words 'Night of the Champions' were written in big 3D metal, and the music was playing as you 'flew' through the words, it was cool!

I've loved that piece of music since:D

That's the one! Too many PPVs used the word "night" back in the day. YouTube videos anyone?

I know the music and words too well - I spend too much time watching boxing them days - and taped everything I could on VHS I had a big collection.

I taped Benn V McCllellan on the very night - 25th febaury 1995 - on VHS and watched the fight over 1000 times since the night.

I also know all the late 90's shows cos I taped them all.

These days though - I am not so into boxing at all.

There is more to life than watching **** on TV.
