    Mikkel Kessler or Ricky Hatton?

Both fighters have nearly identical records-Kessler 45(34)-2(0) and Ricky Hatton is 45(32)-2(2). Ricky lost to 2 fighters who are viewed as the best in the world. Kessler has lost to the 2 best fighters in the SMW division in the last several years.

Who do you think and why?

Hatton's resume appears to have more depth.

Kessler IMO. Froch alone stands out more than anyone on Ricky's Resume I believe. Ricky was way more well known and exciting tho. Plus Kess is still fighting and with the KO dispatch of Allen Green (not too much to brag about) I favor him.

Tzyu is a better W than Froch IMO especially since a lot feel Froch won that.

    hatton imo

I think comparing those fights is interesting, because while I don't necessarily disagree with you on the Tzyu win being better, I think you can make an argument that the win over Froch was better.

If someone was arguing for Kessler's win over Froch they could point out that Tzyu was past his best and had only fought a few rounds in a 2+year time span leading up to the Hatton fight while Hatton was in his prime. Whereas Kessler was past his best when he beat Froch who might have been in his prime.

Tho Tzyu was past his prime vs an in prime Froch?

Yeah the Kosta fight made Ricky a superstar at the time, which made that win look more impressive not to mention Ricky hadn't lost yet.

Kess's win was meaningful during the Super Six tourney but alot of folks already written Kess off due to his loss by Joe C. Him coming back and proving doubters he still had it with a war against Froch, to me makes it more impressive win.

Castillo, Zoo, Malignaggi >> Froch...Andrade? Green?

Funnily enough they both have losses to similar styles too

Hatton was already a star. IMO I just felt Tzyu was the more dangerous fight since most everyone felt kess was going to beat froch.

Froch was 32 which is old for a SMW, especially for one who eats as many shots as Carl.

i dont agree at all that kessler was 'written off' after losing to joe - quite the opposite, a lot of people saw him as the pre-tournament favourite

ward was pretty obscure pre-tourney and froch got in via a last gasp win over taylor

i think it pretty much is considering what he can realistically achieve

apart from beating froch in nottingham, a fight i dont think he would win, there isnt a whole lot out there that can put him in a better light

cant see him looking to fight ward again, bute showed how a relatively decent fighter with a very poor gameplan can go up in flames once he steps up in opposition (hes not a credible opponent as it stands), abraham will stay in germany now....

Ricky Hatton EASILY. Hatton is a two weight division champion, fought everyone available and made a serious mark in boxing in his time.

Kessler is overrated. Kessler's only fans are desperate Calzaghe fans trying to hype that one win worth mentioning in that fraud's entire career.

kessler also fought everyone available, only lost to the best, and notched up meaningful wins in the meantime

dont use belts to justify hatton, thats misleading

i think this is a good thread and comparison, and i'd probably have hatton pipping it, but it isnt that cut and dry
