Ken Buchanan v Alexis Arguello

As hard as Alexis hit and although Buchanan could rely on his great chin, Arguello isn't forcing him into the torrid pace that Duran did. And Arguello isn't hitting Ken in the bollocks either

A distance fight all the way for me, with Buchanan's consistent and quicker jab and feet offsetting Arguello's timing enough that Ken doesn't get hit too much, Buchanan is not replicating Vilomar Fernandez here, he'd give Arguello way more opportunities, but also less than JLR did, and the Mexican showed how a good blend of lateral movement and offence could be enough to edge Arguello without having to run from him.

Buchanan by decision in a close fight, and a great one. It's easy to think 'a mover causes Alexis trouble' which is true but it's not like he didn't always get his licks in, and Buchanan was not hard to find. Saying that, I think Buchanan's odd slipping style will cause the completely textbook Arguello real problems.

As lora touched, Marcel came up from underneath and went straight back under again, popped up, and again, when Arguello tried to throw shorter after losing the bout at range. Very Panamanian stylist was Marcel, but then Ken didn't exactly box how you'd expect a Scotsman too did he? Very odd but cultured and comfortable style, with guts and activity. Great blend really.

As lora also touched on; Arguello was 'green' against Marcel (not that green, ask Legra) he was also slower. He was also more patient would which wouldn't be in his best interests against Buchanan. It all levels itself out and I see Buchanan the winner, little doubt, but with a puncher like Alexis you'd never really know. Taking even a great punchers chance like that out of the equation, a guaranteed brilliant contest, 10-5 or 9-6 type decision.

 

Judging by the comments, I might be underestimating my fellow countryman... or overrating the Nicaraguan fellow :think

Nah, I`ll stick with Arguello by close decision for now... could go either way tho to be fair. Buchanan was the best fighter we ever had (not that that says a lot but still)

Benny Lynch, Ken Buchanan, Walter McGowan, Jim Watt says plenty and that's just the top guys I can think of off the top of my head. Scotland are **** hot, just look at the variety of stylists there! A top 5 lock for the greatest flyweight of all time?!? Gedouddahere

As much as a really like both these fighters I believe in later rounds Arguello would have just been too much for him, they start trading it out and Buchanan gets KO'd between the 8th and 12th rounds..
