Do you think Duran thought he'd have his handsfull against Benitez like that and lose

I remember Benitez drumming Duran's belly like Ginger Baker all night long. I bet Duran's ribs hurt for a month after that.

Twice in my life I've bet $500 dollars on a sporting event.
The first was Holmes-Cooney. With Larry's head on straight I just couldn't see Gerry having a chance. But Holmes was the favorite and I think I 'only' made about $360. But my friend Mike and I gladly accepted it!

The second was Benitez-Duran. We loved Duran, we loved Benitez. But Wilfred was still his shifty self at that time and was showing some new-found power (Hope, etc.)
As the other posters have said, Benitez was the clear favorite of the bookies; I think that's why we each went for the half-a-thou! A clear win for Wilfred tho one of the judges did score the bout 143-142 Benitez??? What was this guy smokin'?
Not sure of the odds, but we only made about $290 on the fight (worse than Holmes-Cooney)
Clearly Benitez was the odds on fav that night against Roberto.

 

Unfortunately,,,,,,,,

Roberto Duran like a pitcher warming up in the bullpen,,,,,,,,,, left his stuff there.

Wilfred was waiting for Roberto to come on,,,,,,,, he never did.

The judges, it you want to call them that, missed much of the fight, as Wilfred
won by a wide margin.

Did anybody see Roberto winning more than 4 Rounds,,,,,,I had it 9-4-2 in Rounds.

It wasn't that Wilfred was so good, but Roberto just didn't bring the heat that night.

 

"Had his hands full", lol,...Duran had his ass whipped by the ever theatrically arrogant and masterful El Radar Benitez.

 

Benitez' style would always have been difficult to deal with, especially at the higher weights for Duran. Benitez fighting at range and more than capable on the inside, making every shot count.

I would say at 140 lbs.
