Re-watching this fight, Briggs troubles Lewis in the first round has him backpedaling from a left hook balance shot, Nails a couple more good shot before rounds end. In Round 2 Briggs takes a lot of Lewis shots and shakes em off to the crowd, He stuns Lewis with another Left Hook momentarily, at the end Lewis is able reassert his position in the fight. Round 3 more of the same. Round 4 gets interesting with Lewis assreting his dominace as the superior fighter with a massive Left Hook of his own. Briggs falling all over ring, 2 knockdowns to Lewis. Round 5 Lewis continues dominating with his Jab/Left Hooks/Straight Right, Briggs get's KD, Lewis batters him until a stoppage. Lewis TKO5 Briggs I thought it was a nice scrap with Lewis proving to be the Superior skilled fighter with Briggs showing alot of heart in the fight. A far cry from the former shell who faced Vitali.
I was at this fight and the crowd went nuts when Briggs hurt Lewis and they though he had a chance at the ko.
I Agree, nice entertaining fight to watch. I also agree that Lewis's chin is underrated. Lewis/Mercer with a smaller ring, he showed he could slug it out with a guy who had a good chin for 10 rounds. Nice fight
You mean a 40 year Vitali, after a 4 year layoff and 3 operations (knee, spine and shoulder). That's Vitali in his prime?
Briggs: “I’ve fought George Foreman, I’ve fought Lennox Lewis and Vitali’s the best. He hits harder than Foreman, he’s got incredibly fast hands.” :deal
Lewis was very careless in that first round, he literally walked onto a Briggs left hook. Briggs whose got a very impressive first round KO percentage.
Who can judge better, one who stood in the ring with all this boxers. or keyboard warriors like us? :hi:
There are many perspectives in that statement by Briggs... First of all Foreman was about 25 years past his best.. Second it was an inteview taken right after the fight, in Brigg's humble moment after getting beat down he said that Vitali hit harder than Lewis did.
