Can somebody explain to me how Chavez and not Martinez is the WBC champ??

Zbik was Martinez' mandatory.
HBO would not put on the fight.
Martinez decided to take on an opponent HBO would approve.
Martinez therefore lost his title.
Zbik vs Chavez JR was approved for HBO.
Chavez JR wins the vacant WBC title.

It's not fair, but that is what happened.

I'm also not aware what importance the WBC diamond belt is, I think it's just an excuse for fees and a over glorified #1 contender status.

 

Martinez was suppose to defend against zbik his mandatory..hbo turned it down martinez got stripped

then hbo approves zbik for chavez and the wbc puts the belt up for grabs


they bascially just took the belt and gave it to chavez

 

and diamond champ is a meaningless trophy

One addition: Chavez Jr. actually became Martinez' mandatory (don't ask me how) and even said he would not turn a Maravilla fight down, who of course said he'd love the match-up. But Arum/Sulaiman thought Jr. isn't ready yet, so they just removed Martinez and handed Chavez his belt. Zbik, interim champ for 3 years under Pavlik, just came handy, can't say if HBO was involved in the scam.

Get it? He's not ready for Martinez so let's get him the belt without Martinez. Insane.

 

How did Canelo become champ?

 

I think he got it by fighting Matthew Hatton.

 

Sure can! The WBC's Twiiter account just explained it to me...They said because Sergio fought for the WBC Diamond Belt, he cannot keep two titles at the same time. The way they explained it is they said they don't let anyone hold 2 titles at once because it freezes up the division.

I told them I didn't believe that BS and that if Chavez were in that position, and exception would be made.

That was almost 2 hours ago, still waiting for a in-depth explanation.

 

After Martinez got stripped of the WBC at 154..somehow manny and margo fought for it at 150...then manny moved back down and some how Canelo and Hatton fought for the vacant belt at yet another catchweight of 150...(that canelo did not even make)


So basically Martinez made alot of people champions by winning

 

why did martinez hold a press conference to say he's no longer repping the wbc and will only defend the ring belt....

then...he never went on to fight pirog, or sturm...instead took on the euro/brit bum tour......

 

Chavez is Mexican.
