My advice, stand there with your guard down, and let your sparring partner beat the **** out of you. Hopefully that will help you realize, you've chosen the wrong sport as a hobby for yourself :good

everybody could have that kind of experience at first and yet some day come to master the sport, why not?
not too kind help for the lad among some of the responses above
boxing isn't about not being shy or not being afraid, but a path and a way to let those problems behind u, if u've got the commitment to keep trying, make ur best
everybody should have the right to get his time to grow a pair of balls of his own
to u up there, who started the thread.... hear wise counsel, don't panic, don't despair, if u love boxing stick to ur training and eventually u'll make improvement

Yep, I was the same way when I started boxing, public speaking for my job, and so forth. Just keep at it, but often. Don't make any hasty decisions until you have put some time in the actual ring sparring. I would guess that better than half of boxers begin with the same fear. Don't over think about it, just go train. When you start having fun with the sport, the fear will seem a distant memory.

some people that spar for the first time, may punch alot because they are nervous too. the difference with you may be that you want to use your defense. deep down you may know how important defense really is.

and that can block you from what you want . its a mental thing. i suggest to throw 3 or 4 punches at a time when shadow boxing. and just keep knowing that is what you want to do.

next time you spar it could work to your advantage.

last week i sparred but i did not let my hands go and halfway through the round my defense just wasnt holding up anymore. so i was getting hit anyway.

i know now that if im going to get hit. i may as well do some damage of my own.

i sparred this week and was much more aggresive. i should only improve in the next few weeks.
