First you have to pay to have cable and then you pay for "premium" channels like HBO and Showtime. Considering that and the fact that like all boxing, it took place on a Sat night, these are pretty good numbers, especially with the performance put in. Much different from Bradley/Alexander

Are we supposed to be impressed by this? Ratings numbers don't carry the weight that PPV sales do. HBO has an estimated 20+ million cable subscribers. So, about 5% of those whom the fight was available to, took the time to watch the fight? I'm glad they got some needed exposure, but as for the purpose of the thread, so what?

So 20 million cable subscribers for HBO. I know I'm being a Butard but bear with me. And 19 million Romania's population.
Ward does 1.3 millions against a guy like Dawson
Bute does 2.5 millions against a guy like Mendy.

Love it. Ward is a star and I hope he and Bute can make a PPV bout once Bute avenges the Froch defeat.

Bute is WAY WAY bigger athlete in Romania, than Ward is in USA.

I don't have any numbers of any Bute's fights Canadian PPV's but I'm thinking the lower ones like Brinkley or Magee are probably around the 1 mil figure.
If any Canadian could help us with some numbers that'll be great.

People wanna see the best - Ward is the best right now though people don't realise it yet. Expect his numbers to keep growing.

Bute is bigger in Romania than Ward is in America. Plus, we have several other sports, particularly on a Saturday in September.

So, a national hero in Romania is going to out draw an outside the mainstream boxer in the US who is competing with college football and the closing, ultra important stretch of Major League Baseball.

Broner vs Escobedo had 1.4MM viewers and that was widely perceived as a terrible card.

I'm thinking this is a disappointment considering that the purses for this card were around triple that of Broner.

I gotta agree, 28 mil and only 1.3 mil watched. Not that great of a number. I think Broner di around the same number and that was for a BAD card.

Broner wasn't competing against college football. Not tying to discount the guy, or make excuses for Ward, but prime time college football draws a ton of viewers who might otherwise tune into a fight.

I was just using Broner to point out that the number wasn't good.

seem like good numbers for his first fight on HBO. He gave viewers a good show too unlike Bradley/Alexander so his numbers should continue to grow from that

Nice! Good to see those types of ratings on a HBO card. Good for the sport!
