Lol. Pavlik lost every round to an ole' Bernard Hopkins - making him look ten years younger in the process... Ward absolutely _destroys_ Pavlik.
It's weird, it seems a lot of fighters start to turn it around on Martinez, figuring him out, only to have it turn back around on them. It's almost as if Martinez deliberately takes lulls in the middle stages of his fights and then comes on strong as part of some game plan or general habit... :think:hey:yep
Martinez regularly takes rounds off because he has stamina issues. Whenever he wanted to, he stepped up and Pavlik had no answer.
:huh I didn't see Pavlik connecting any more than the rest of the fight, which was "some", aside from the brilliant tactical decision to hold and hit with his foot behind Martinez to score a 10/8 round. That was pretty clever, when he "figured out" Martinez was open for the move. This content is protected Yes, Jack. That is what I was saying. He's done it in all his fights for the past few years. It doesn't mean his opponents figured anything out during the lull, yeah? :deal Although I wouldn't say it's a stamina issue, so much as a stamina plan.
After the fight Kelly admitted to jsimps he got lazy with a jab, got countered and the cut opened. We don't know how the fight would have gone without the cut. There is a reason Martinez said that was his toughest fight even including the so called loss to Williams. I'm far from a good fight analyst but the site is filled mainly with people less competent than me. atsch
I remember that, Martinez said that every time kelly landed he could feel the power. He was in awe of Kelly's power actually.
Probably just one of the reasons that Garcia is really working with Kelly on the body attack. Easier to move the head than the whole body. For reference see Dirrell making Froch look like an absolute amateur as Froch headhunted on the ropes and Dirrell easily moved out of the way each time.
Well, he had a cut over that eye, and one over the other eye, a bloody nose and a bloody mouth. It's hard to say how the fight would've gone if Martinez hadn't battered the **** out of him, I guess. It could've gone completely differently if Martinez hadn't punched him at all, or out-maneuvered him. If those two things hadn't happened, I feel Pavlik knocks Martinez spark out. Too bad we won't ever get to see the fight we all wanted, where Martinez stops punching and moving and Pavlik just beats the **** out of him. Then we would've seen who was really the better fighter on the night. Damned cut. c
Boo, I respect you as a fan, you've stayed behind your fighter when most people on this board would bail during a crippling loss. I thought for a moment you'd fall off the train after the Martinez fight, but you kept at it. Having said that, I personally disagree with almost everything you wrote (except Pavlik being tougher than Dawson). I DO think Ward can hurt him (not in the one-shot leg stiffening sense, but in the Mayweather sense of just always getting the opponents respect). I don't really think Pavlik is "FAR" more skilled than Froch. And I do think a Ward/Pavlik rematch would be pretty easily sellable (especially if Pavlik rips a belt of Abraham or something) BUT I do think it would be pretty one sided in favor of Ward. At any rate, if this fight did happen, how specifically do you think it would go?
