ESPN2 TNF: Jessie Vargas vs. Aaron Martinez & Luis Cruz vs. Jose Felix Jr. RBR

Yeah, originally put 29-28 Vargas before remembering that I hadn't given Martinez either of the first two. :yep Got mixed up because of someone above me posting 19-19.

 

Round 5

Martinez is catching jabs on his left forearm held across his belly. Vargas is marching in and leading with the jab, and with left upper-hooks falling in. Martinez tries to swing wide around the back of the head and Nady admonishes him for spinning Vargas away with the back of his head curled into his elbow. Jabs by Vargas from mid-range. Martinez moves in, getting clinched, and taps the body. Vargas is putting together straight shots, then catching Martinez and tying up until either Nady gets in between them or Martinez stops punching, at which point he leans out to start it all over with another combo. Martinez is warned to watch his head.

At this rate, Vargas should make headway toward shedding the "boring" tag no matter the result.

 

Round 6

Vargas steps in, slows down, jabs. Martinez tries to stiff-arm with his left and then drive the right into the body of Vargas. Mauling on the inside by Martinez, grinding and getting warned frequently by Nady for leading with the head. Vargas is jabbing stepping in and actually hurts Martinez with an accidental headbutt, causing him to blink and wince. Vargas flashes him a cruel grin. Jab to the face by Vargas.

Round 7

Martinez shoves his way in past a Vargas jab, slapping the body with both hands as he gets grabbed. Martinez has his head down so Nady can't warn him for thrusting it up into Vargas'. Nady instead finds something else to ***** him out over, lecturing him about pinning Vargas' arms on the inside. Nice little exchange on the inside, both landing. Martinez is pushed back to the ropes and ties up as Vargas jabs his way in. Martinez circles left, knees deeply bent and square with his shoulders. Jab by Vargas. Martinez keeps going in reverse, then angles off the ropes, and back again. Vargas is showing the jab but not rushing in, wary of Martinez springing a trap. Overhand right by Vargas, sloppy, missing over Martinez's back as he ducks and grabs. Jab to the body by Vargas jumping in, and Martinez answers with a hook to the body. Flurry by Vargas as Martinez tries to brawl with him by the ropes and flaps his arms in encouragement.
