Ok so tell me how boxers who drink, smoke, and ate **** are better athletes ? The human body doesn't work like that anyone with a basic understanding of diets knows when you drink, smoke and eat **** you can't preform at your best.

ahh interesting, but i have seen rocky maricano on the pads, there are a few pictures
and even stuff before the 1950's so pad work was around.

and i have trained with russian trainers and all have used pad work since the 1940's and if you see old russian training clips, you lots of pad work

to make the fighter and his punches sharp....

now many people said that many old school fighters didnt use pad work,
interesting because while many of them were great technically,

a lot of them look a bit sloppy in their punching form, even ray robinson sometimes looks a bit sloppy to be honest...

could the the two go hand in hand
because while a lot of old timers seem more crafty,
their actual punches often look sloppy

Joy new school versus old school debate. Look at a picture of Harold Johnson or Rocky Graziano or Tiger Jack Fox and talk to me about definition.

There are artificial limits placed on boxers called weight classes that limit physicality in a way not present in other sports. Ray Robinson was 5'11". How many of the top 10 welters are taller than that. 2? 3?

lmao a dreg. Look at you getting all upset because im insulting the "old school" by saying modern boxers are better athletes

You said there was no proof quoting "Does he have more defined abs?" as proof. I show you a picture of that being clearly truth and you kick off. Do you really think mayweather sits around all day when hes not got a fight scheduled ? He's in the gym all the time.

Sports improve all the time and people are getting bigger, stronger, faster. This is just fact. It's due to better diets, training techniques and drugs. If robinson was around today he would still be the best in the world but just with the advantages of modern training. Things improve get over it.

I have never said fighters today where more skilled so how have i ducked the question  one of your questions was does mayweather have better abs than robinson and ive posted two pictures comparing which proves he quite clearly does. But i'll go over it again.

    Does he fight more rounds?
No fights where reduced due to a safety aspect and he doesn't need to fight every other week to make money.

Does he have a higher punch output?
Don't know don't think they kept records of punch stats back then.

Does he have more defined abs?
    Yes, see for yourself

Does he have better heart rate numbers?
As of right now i would say so, robinsons has been pretty low for the last 23 years.

Here is some statics from other sports up to 2007

Showing a measured % improvement in athletes performance.

Todays athletes are bigger, faster and stronger. Heavyweights are getting bigger, boxer are able to last longer (e.g. hopkins at 47 years old) people are becoming better athletes. Thats just fact.

Im not saying they are better boxers today im saying they are better athletes. You take any random welterweight from the 50's and one from today and test them on speed, endurance, strength and i'm willing to bet 9 times out of 10 todays boxer overall comes out on top.

    Speed and power ok.

How has technique evolved from the 50's?

For ****'s sake, boxing isn't a sport where jumping higher, running faster, or throwing farther get you points. You have to know how to fight. It's often too difficult to separate athleticism by itself from it's harmony with technical ability, to make sweeping generalizations like that.

in a sense this is correct, if you put the same fighter in the 50's and today, todays version should get higher %'s from his body.
However in USA in the 50's boxing was a mass participation sport, with a significantly deeper talent pool attracting the best athletes in the country.(alongside only MLB)

This is by no means a cut and dry issue

No but have you ever been in the ring with someone whos stronger and faster than you ? They quite clearly have a massive advantage.
