You people are getting out of control. He looked great at the weigh in. I always thought Hatton looked far more gaunt at 140 in his last few fights than Chavez did today. Chavez looked healthy. Guys are acting like you've seen your first weigh in. Chavez will re-hydrated up to 178, unlike Oscar who was DOWN around 147 within weeks of the fight. Oscar did not rehydrate up in weight during the Pac fight which is why he was dead in the water. He was a drained sitting duck. Chavez is nothing like that for this fight.

I'm with Pete. Jr. looked far better than in the Lee fight. If you know what to look for, who the fighter is and the circumstances around their weight, then you'd realize how Jr. felt comfortable enough to lose an extra 2 pounds below the limit. He did seem a bit nervous though. Maybe the atmosphere or the realization he has the performance of his life hours ahead.
He will be big by tomorrow and Martinez will have a full fighter to deal with.

True... but the problem is that 168 is a deadly division.

I seriously don't see how people consider Chavez losing his weigh healthy. He was 172 earlier this week and now 158?
    Yea.... that's nowhere near healthy
And if you ever had to drop weight before, you'd know dropping that much weight in that amount of time is not healthy

I actually thought he weighed in at 145, but come fight time, he was 145.

There always comes a time when the body just stops cooperating with the abuse you put it through. This may be the time. Jr. looks gaunt. We shall see what he has in his tank later.

    Dont you follow boxing??

That sort of weight loss HAPPENS ALL THE TIME!!!!!

Gatti,Clottey,Ortiz, Hatton,Pacquiao when he fought at featherweight etc etc etc etc

I dint know why people make such a big deal out of JCCs weight cutting

At the 7 day weigh in,he weighed the same as Martinez!

Hard to tell if he looked better or worse than at the Lee Weight in... He looked skinny as hell in both and performed well against Lee. I don't believe he can stay at 160 for long, but it's hard to predict that he'll be drained tonight. We won't know until the fight.

I'm surprised he came down an extra 2 pounds than needed, but overall I don't know if that means anything at all. To me, Martinez looked fresh at the weigh in, Chavez looked a little weak. However the younger Chavez' body can recover quicker than the older Martinez so I'm not sure it will matter come tonight.

This is a truly hard fight to pick. I think this fight comes more down to a battle of "wills" more than a battle of skills. On one hand, if Martinez is not getting backed up and trapped on the ropes it will be a very long road for Chavez, if we see Martinez getting backed up and trapped on the ropes frequently, he could be in for a hurting. Its hard to see which scenario will play out. I tend to slightly favor Chavez to be able to start backing Martinez up by mid fight. This is a fight where the championship rounds could really reveal the outcome. I can see Martinez winning early rounds, Chavez coming on in the middle rounds and the Championship rounds will be the key.

Either way, it should be a great fight. May the best man win.

i think thats pretty much the consensus among knowledgeable boxing fans.

and knowledgeable boxing fans also know that jr weighing in at 158(he weighed 159 for lee) will have nothing to do with the outcome of this fight. funny to see people yelilng and crying over 158 when jr has shown to be extremely effective at 159.

at 158 his arms are smaller, hes gaunt, skinny, weight-drained, etc.

    ****ing esb forums.

He did look drained but we need to stop with the BS excuses all the time....Jr is a professional....he's a man....he made his own mind up to fight the best and we will see if he can beat the best. I still say Jr pulls it out.
