Can a person feel if they hit hard, or can you only measure power against an opponent

I mean, people obviously can hit a punch bag and kind of make a guesstimate of their punch power, but do you only really know how hard a person can hit by facing a live opponent?

A lot of artificial power can be created when hitting the bag, pads, etc.

Funny about this thread, have spoken to some top-notch fighters with reputations for heavy hands, and asked if they knew early-on they were knockout punchers. To my surprise, many said they had no idea till opponents kept dropping when they were hit.

Pretty much need to spark a few people out before you can claim to be a big hitter. Like myself :yep

You don't really know for sure until you hit someone and see their reaction or they tell you.

Well my pal was holding the pads for me the other day at the gym, and after holding the pads he told me I hit bloody hard. I always try to throw punches while feeling relaxed, otherwise I feel my punches become stiff.

depends on your weight and such too. Heavy weight guys will obviosly always hit hard but not always for there weight class. I can hit the heaviest bag and make it shake quite a bit acually with my straights and hit hard on the pads but i just learned to put everything onto the punch without overcommitment. You can just tell on the bag, the way it sounds, the feeling you get when you feel the impact. The last thing id ever do though is do it to my sparring partner because i can just tell. Would i knockout a heavyweight with that punch? course not im only 140lbs.

Any man that knows himself, knows when he can crack. You dont have to hit a person. You can hit a new heavy bag and if you got it, you will feel it cause the power will back up your arm to your shoulder, similar to when you shoot a shotgun but not that pronouced. knockouts is cool but thats mostly about a certain amount of pressure in the right place. When you can crack, your opponent is hurting no matter where you him.:bbb

Not so sure if the sound hitting the heavy bag is the best power yardstick, r. The guy who hit the heavy bag loudest at the 5TH ST GYM, with monsters like Cleveland Williams 'n Mike DeJohn, was Willie Pastrano, who couldn't break an egg.

I always though i did not hit hard becasue i did not move the bag much. Turns out i do hit hard and even rock people with jabs, my right hand has been given many many compliments by trainers because of the angles that i can through it from and always with knockout power even if i'm just going for speed.

I always though i could not punch until my first sparring session.

thats true, ive been told though before i even really put any bodyweight but it could be just from the guy being nice. It's hard to tell when your just more focused on really sparring than hitting hard.

next time when you're crossing a street, punch the guy's face next to you.
