How come Vitali doesn't put full force behind his punches?

The more I watch from him, he doesn't put his body behind his punches in the way Wlad does.

Yeah they are arm punches which still seem to do a lot of damage (look at Adamek, Briggs and Charr's faces after he fought them) but why do you think he throws so many of them?

They don't look THAT hard, so is it sheer accumulation damage?

Because Vitali is not robotic like limited like Wlad. Vitali is a natural born fighter that has better mobility, better defense and better all around fighter.

Wlad on the other hand has to rely on his 1-2 knockout power since he is not as natural as Vitali as a fighter.

I think Wlad has better mobility than Vitali and he is also faster (both are slow though).

Wlad is the Peyton while Vitali is the Eli.

1 year ago I would have taken Vitali over Wlad.

Today, I would take Wlad by wide UD over Vitali.

Prime vs Prime Vitali is better you know it.

The only way Wlad can get close is the 2010-2012 shot version of Vitali and Wlad had and needed to improved after getting KTFO couple times in the early 2000s.

Wrong Vitali still knock Wlad the **** out. Wlad cannot take a punch. Wlad has lunch meat skin and a eggshell chin.

A lot of Vitali's defense is based on leaning away from opponent's offense. He wouldn't be able to do that very well if he were off balance from missing a shot with body weight behind it -- would leave him open to pretty wicked counters.

Yeah, pretty much. He used to hit harder back in the day though - the straight right that hurt Lewis (that he did throw with a fair commitment) is something you can't see from him now. I think it's age. They say that power goes last but he's just not as dynamic as he used to be, looks like he'd be even slower than he already is throwing such a commited punch. So he doesn't, especially that he doesn't need to to still win fights.

Why take a chance throwing hard punches, when you can just illegally thumb a guy & then have your ref & ring doctor stop the fight?

Vitali may be a ****, but he 'aint no fool.

I think you could argue the exact opposite of this.

Vitali, for all his strengths, doesn't rely on a wide variety of punches. He gets away with arm punches because his size, strength and reach are so great that he can pepper you from the outside and it will still hurt.

One thing Vitali does really well, I'll add, is angle his punches. Very, very seldom does he throw a typical jab or cross...each punch comes from a different angle, making it very tough to block in any organized way. Couple that with his reach and output...most guys can't even get their hands on the guy. Extremely effective.

If Vitaly is so badass than why does he continually take on the weaker opposition?

    hybrid uppercut/cross/jab arm punches.
And even if you can get past Vitali his defence, he isn't scared to trade some punches as he has full confidence in his chin.

Technically Vitali often looks pretty awful. He is able to compensate for it by his natural advantages. He either has a cocky disregard for technique, or just isn't that athletic. But like Foreman before him, he gets away with it because of his strengths.

And just who is the tougher opposition that Vit should be fighting?

Do you really need to ask this question? If you think the likes of Charr, Chisora, Briggs and Sosnowski are worthwhile and decent opposition than you cannot be helped.
