Oyewale Omotoso vs. Daniel Sostre, 8 rounds @ welterweight

 

Round 1

Omotoso backs Sostre up with big left hooks and looping rights coming forward. Sostre is leaned back, trying to jab from a slickster's stance but getting pushed to the ropes and having his guard smashed apart whenever Omotoso lets the bombs fly.

Round 2

Omotoso is leaping in with right hands and catching Sostre by shooting the gap between his gloves. Sostre is using lots of body feints and slippery defensive maneuvers and trying to jab from a leaning squat. Omotoso is still controlling the pace with his aggression and throwing with big power.

Round 3

Omotoso is catching Sostre more and more with the right hand to the braids and the waistband. Sostre is trying to slap with Omotoso on the inside, and getting rocked back by left hooks. Sostre seems to take pride in the fact that he can take Omotoso's power punches by rolling with them and not looking too badly hurt. Sostre's own shots are weak slaps that do nothing to hold Omotoso back. A few pawed jabs by Sostre on the back foot, trying to duck and slip shots and whip up counters from a crouch. Omotoso is keeping up a responsible but more conventional defense as he comes forward, pressuring and landing power punches to the body or bashing into Sostre's gloves to score billiard-shot own-goals to the face.

The commentator for the preliminary card is Colonel Bob Sheridan, but you can overhear Jim Lampley recording a commentary track in the background.

So this bout will possibly be used as PPV filler by HBO if they have lots of time on their hands. :good

 

Round 4

Omotoso is chopping hard with powerful overhands and putting in straights to the body, hurting Sostre more and more. Sostre is still boldly loitering in front of Omotoso, waving his upper body around and letting his head loll to the side while flicking out backhand jabs and whipping rights to the body. Omotoso beelines in to push Sostre to the ropes. Pitty-pat combos by Sostre, and Omotoso walks through them with his left arm tucked low, absorbing some on the biceo. HARD CHOPPING 1-2 by Omotoso, causing Sostre's legs to dip by the ropes. Sostre comes back with a pretty sweet right hand counter!
