You can't really compare those fights to this. Both of those fights had tremendous ebb and flow, with momentum shifts for both fighters over the course of the fight (and in some cases, rounds).

This was a whitewashing until Chavez landed that shot.

    I feel you.

It's like wanting to see Tyson-Bonecrusher Smith rematch because Smith finally landed a huge right hand in the last 10 secs (had Tyson hurt too, IMO) after 11 plus rounds of hugging.

I mean, is a rematch in order based on 'what if Bonecrusher had started earlier'?

Personally I feel the situation is like this

Martinez was dominating the fight (despite the complete **** sucking from the Top Rank commentator) and the only reason I felt that Chavez Jr wasnt stopped was because he was covering up and not giving Martinez the opportunity to land a big punch like he landed against Macklin and Williams which was a double edged sword as he was losing rounds.

Chavez constantly was looking for ways out complaining about every foul imaginable including Low blows, rabbit punches and tried to over play the head clash between the two (which Sergio came off worse in being cut again under the eye) then Sergio was pushed down to the canvas which maybe showed similar signs of fatigue he did against Paul Williams in their first fight.

Personally the final knockdown was caused by a good punch from Julio but he landed punches like that all night out of desperation but this time caused Martinez to stumble and then followed it up with some messy shots that had Martinez down, of course Martinez got up on shaky legs but he wasnt "out of there" like the commentators suggested as he was firing back and only went down after being thrown down when Chavez got him locked in a head lock. Pure bravery on Martinez's part

Now factor in that Martinez is 37 years old, outweighed by 15-20 lbs against a younger fighter after a hard fought 12 rounds in which he was dominating accompanied by head clashes that he got cut in and are you surprised Martinez went down?

So to answer the question, Does Chavez Jr deserve a rematch? coin flip.

On one hand he did nothing until the half way mark of the final round worth mentioning and was completely dominated in a fight in which he outweighed his opponent and tried soccer tactics constantly to the referee screaming foul play

On the other hand Martinez was hurt in that last round by a legal blow (somebody said a head clash caused Martinez to go down but I think thats just a die hard Sergio fan) and he did go down which begs the question if Julio could have the chance to do that again would he win?

Personally for me I would prefer Martinez to take on either Daniel Geale or Gennady Golovkin next and pick up the WBA or IBF belt in a unification whilst Julio Cesar Chavez fights Mathew Macklin for the right to rematch Martinez.

Martinez wont move up beyond 160 and wants Mayweather/Cotto/Pacquiao at 154 but honestly those 3 would NEVER fight someone as big and dangerous as Martinez so he needs to stop kidding himself and stick to fighters in the middleweight division

    Geale - IBF
    Golovkin - WBA
    Chavez Jr 2
    Macklin 2

Id be disappointed if Sergio Martinez didnt pick one of those to fight next

Ward was getting his ass kicked until the mid rounds.

Like I said, its ignorant the way the fight ended. Give the two fighters some credit.

So, you're actually comparing this fight to Ward-Gatti? Say word?

And most here recognize the huge difference between a 'mid rounds' momentum shift and a guy who did nothing for 11 1/2 rounds and landed a desparation shot in the 12 round.

    Seriously.

A rematch makes too much sense, and money. You don't know **** about Boxing.

It was epic, like Creed v Balboa, and we all know what happened after that.

NO. Chavez was schooled for 11.5 rounds... then he lands some punches at the end but couldnt finish the guy..... I just dont see it.... IMO Chavez should move up in weight and give that a try

So after coming from behind, scoring a knockdown and having Martinez stumbling all over the ring with a minute left , were asking if he deserves a rematch? :rofl

deserving a rematch and wanting a rematch are 2 different things..... the PPV will be even bigger numbers on a rematch.... thats what will cause a rematch..... SM and Chavez are smart enough to know this
