The advisor of RING middleweight champion Sergio Martinez said the fighter received eight stitches to repair a cut over his left eye, two staples in his head and suffered from both a broken left hand and torn ligaments in his right knee following Saturday night's unanimous decision that dethroned WBC titleholder Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. before a sold out crowd of 19,186 in an HBO Pay Per View-televised clash at the Thomas and Mack Center.

So it's the same knee that was wrapped in training?

As for the Hand, yeah, like someone else said...what do you expect when you are throwing power shots to a Dome made out of Concrete

Martinez put on a great performance. I think he should go after a Mayweather or Pac fight then retire, win or lose. Mayweather would be better, I think Pac is probably a bit small to keep moving up

Sergio Maravilla Martinez pushed himself to his limits in his advanced age. This was a great, great performance! an amazing ambassador and example for the sport we love. Do you guys think he will get Canelo next? What a fight that would be.

if this does take 9 months of healing for Martinez, Chavez will probably just move up to 168. Even if they never fight again, Chavez doesn't come out of it too bad. He lost to an experienced very very good fighter. Believe me sometimes a loss is not that bad. In this situation if he wins another title at 168 no one will really care about this. He went 12 rounds with Martinez. Not bad.

I seen him shake the hand in one of the rounds I can't remember which around 8 or 9 and I thought he might have broke his hand or hurt it and the next 15 seconds or so he didn't throw the left. But after he started throwing it again and actually threw about 3 or 4 straight lefts in a row so I didn't think anything of it...... Guess he did though.

No he was hurt and hurt bad. Those left hooks Chavez landed were brutal and right on the chin.

Chavez would be a fool to move to 168. Once he starts getting to his true weight class, he is going to get hurt and KO'ed very badly. It is one thing to use roids/PEDS and rehydrate to 190-200 for a 160 fight, but that **** does not hold up well for the bigger guys.

I guess that tends to happen when you come in at 200 for a 160 fight.

I dont think there is a chance for Canelo vs Sergio, Canelo team will not let this fight happen for me Sergio beats him easier than he did Chavez.

I just think his style sucks, hands down low for no reason and getting hammered in the face for no reason, Martinez love cocks
