I am still not impressed with Sergio Martinez. Does anyone else feel the same?

His last 3 fights have been against (stylistically) the same kind of fighters. Barker, Macklin, and Chavez jnr all seem to walk forward with their guard up. Barker showed some skill, but overall he didn't have the power or skill to beat him. The lack of opposition in the Middleweight division is ridiculous, and I'm fed up of people saying Martinez is P4P fighter, when he's actually fought fighters with not a huge amount of ability. Where was Chavez Jnr's jab? Whenever he did throw a good shot, it was slow and pathetic. For a 26 year old, he has about as much agility as a sloth.

Martinez is a good boxer, but he's very overrated. He almost got KTFO in the 12th round by a slow ass Chavez jnr. Okay, so he made Chavez look average in there, but if that's the case, he nearly got knocked out by an average fighter with slow hands and feet. But Chavez just did not have enough in the tank to finish him, which is surprising as Chavez should have had a ton of energy, considering he hardly did f**k all!

I will give Martinez more respect if he actually beats a fighter who has a sharp, crisp jab and good power. if he beats someone like Canelo or Cotto, then I will give him his due credit. I don't dislike him, and as a person he seems cool, but as a fighter he's been ridiculously overrated. He just beat a very overrated fighter in Chavez too. It just annoys me that he keeps harping on about Mayweather fighting him for a big money fight, but he should go to 154 and fight a couple of the top guys there, then he will get the respect.

Anyway, RANT OVER! Does anyone else feel the same about him?

Canelo or Cotto dont want none of Martinez.

and if i was them i wouldnt either,

and if i was Mayweather i'd stay well away.

Julio KO's almost every middleweight, the one he faught last night was just the best, and p4p#3, very skilled, fast, which then made Julio look slow.

Julio didnt look that slow to me, sure he looked big, like 190, but didnt look slow, looked like a game 26 year old who wanted to win. but was against maybe an talked about ATG in years to come, we shall see.

    He's aging, fading.

But he did what he had to do against JCC Jr.

You could take another point of view by saying he nearly got KO'd by a huge punch from an undefeated champ weighing somewhere near 190 pounds, but got up, took a few more punches while standing toe to toe and emerging recovered at the bell.

Your last statement makes no sense. Mayweather is the top guy in 154. So you think he should fight Cotto, Lara, Canelo, and then, maybe he will get enough respect for it to be ok to call out Mayweather by the time he is pushing 40?

I may exaggerate a bit to show my point, but only a little bit.

I like his style...reminds me Roy...but...he talks too much...no where nearly as good as these fickle fans make out....the Mayweather fight will prove this in my opinion. Floyd possesses all the tools to break him down..

The only way to beat Martinez conclusively (other then KO) is to have a good start and stay ahead on the cards either by high workrate, boxing on the backfoot & dancing from the outside...or getting K'D's...then you have to survive the latter part of the fight...not getting Ko'd.

He is solid, how not to be impressed, great footwork. Somewhere in best 8 boxers in the world.

No, he may imitate Roy Jones, but Roy Jones had far superior reflexes. In my opinion, that's another area that Martinez has been hyped. His reflexes aren't as good as what people make out. Freddie Roach obviously gave Chavez a **** gameplan, as Chavez hardly used a jab. You would think he would use the jab constantly. Did they not watch the Barker fight? Roach saying he knows how to beat Martinez, well obviously not!

In my personal opinion, Andre Ward is number 3 p4p and Martinez, Donaire, The Klitschkos, Dawson come next.

He got caught with a heavy shot, and got up again. It's boxing, it happends.

You cant use a once in a generation-talent like Mayweather as some kind of standard to label when a lad is doing alright.

Also, Martinez is getting a tad old.

The only thing that wasn't overly impressive about the win was that Chavez is horribly overrated, but it was still a masterclass for 11 rounds and a fabulous performance.

Wow....as a Cotto fan, Im hugely disappinted you would wish Martinez on him.

Martinez is damn near at Roids level, agility-wise. And I think we all know the differnece in raw power. That is a nightmare fight for a Cotto fan.

But as a red banty hater.....yeah, I'd love to see Canelhoe KTFO by Martinez.:deal
