I haven't seen anyone question the mans skill levels, but what many - myself included - have questioned is his level of opposition for a man holding a world title belt. What would be your ideal path for him over the next year or so? I would like to see him in with a borderline elite guy before facing what i believe are the two ATG's (in terms of skill level, not necessarily in terms of resume) around his weight class (Mayweather and Martinez). The borderline elite guy i'm refering to is Miguel Cotto, who is obviously busy in December with a tough fight of his own. My ideal path for Alvarez would be something like this: December: Kirkland/Lara May: HUGE Cinco De Mayo fight vs Cotto if he beats Trout September: If he beats Cotto (i'm not sure he would), fight Mayweather in a huge fight on another Mexican holiday. What do you guys think of Alvarez, and where do you think he should go?
This is pretty much my viewpoint on him aswell. He's been an absolute joke so far but the skill level is there to see imo which is what makes his career path so far such a disappointment. I really wanna see him fight a borderline elite guy before going straight to Mayweather/Martinez, just to confirm what many people think. If he comes through someone like Cotto then that'd prove he's the real deal.
Agree with Box A lot Summarised as over rated for me, but not without ability, let me say that I thought Paul Williams was really going to underline Canelo's lack of output / work rate but hey, we never got to see that Lara should be his next fight in an ideal world, after that Cotto/Trout , hardly likely but we can but wish My feeling is Cotto or Lara will beat him, if they dont and he manages to shine against either or beat either, ill start thinking of this kid as elite, and then maybe Mayweather But i think the wheels will fall of before that point personally
Don't know how any can give him true credit for his win last night. Beating up a guy two weight divisions removed from him, without the power to even pose a threat. He's been hurt in the ring before, and normally fights more cautiously. It was easy for him to throw all with all his power because he didn't have to worry on any anything Lopez had. I believe this guy has a bright future, but he hasn't fought anyone at a top level.
He'll have a fight inbetween now and then though. The winner of that wouldn't be ready untill Cinco De Mayo and Canelo likes to stay active. He took zero punishment last night and could easily fight again in December, but the dates are a problem. Cotto vs Trout on the 1st, Pac vs Marquez on the 8th and apparently Bradley comes back on the 15th.
