As good as martinez looked for 11 rounds I cant help but be a little embarrassed for him. He ran his mouth like never before leading up to this fight and fought his career masterpiece for 11 rounds before getting his ass shown. Despite the domination of the previous rounds nobody wants to win like that in survival mode. Chavez got dominated but proved when all was said and done that he was the badder man. All Sergio had to do was play it cool and he would have put on a grand master performance. He dominated but didnt look too smooth in that last round, a little embarrassing after all that talk. It was supposed to be his marquee moment and somehow chavez stole the event. despite the win I feel like sergio needs to come back and knock chavez out for pride's sake. If that fight wasnt in a ring chavez walks away and martinez is layed out on the sidewalk. I know that would leave me with a bad taste in my mouth.
He has to say things because he got a % of the ppv. The guy is a gent but smart enough at business too.
It would've been more embarrassing if he'd actually lost; it's less considerimg he won while suffering a broken hand and torn up knee ligaments, continued to trade with the bigger, younger fighter and made absolutely no effort to hold on when he was seriously hurt. You get 11 rounds clinic and final act of absolute, unforgettable courage.
I dont think it is embarrassing, imagine how many more casuals bought the fight because the high ranked P4P with a few great knock outs said he is going to knock someone out instead of saying he is going to outbox him.
Coulda, shoulda, woulda.... Martinez could have just cruised the 12 round a win a shut out. Instead Martinez tried going for the KO to not leave it to the judges. Chavez had atleast 1 1/2 minute to get the job done on that last round and Jr couldn't because Martinez was responding back yet fools claim he was saved by the bell? :huh Its not like the KD came in the last 10 seconds. What is embarrasing is that Chavez claiming that Martinez is old and yet everytime on every round the last one to get up was the young gun :yep while the old man was more than ready to continue.
Embarrassing? Please. Schooled a younger, bigger man who weighed possibly close to 190 on the night and who was utterly ineffective until the 12th round. Tired and got momentarily sloppy at the end, but still fought his way out of it and refused to hold. It was an elite level performance. Absolutely nothing to be embarrassed about. Chavez should be embarrassed that he ever held that belt.
Martinez got a bit careless in trying to get Chavez out of there and paid for it. Nothing to be ashamed about, he still won every other round by a far margin.
Are you ******ed? Embarrassed? He beat ass for 11 1/2 rounds, could have just run in the 12th, could have held when he got hurt but fought his way out of it. Dude has NOTHING to be embarrassed about. Jr should be embarrassed for getting his ass kicked by an "old man" who out worked him and trained harder.
Embarassing? How is it embarrasing to school someone who has every advantage in the book and still cheats. He was going against the son of a legend who pads his record, gets automatic access from his name/dad's money to Freddy Roach and state of the art facilities, negotiates fights to be the size of a phonebooth, uses PEDS, comes in 30lbs heavier every single ****ing time, etc... And the ****ing sad part is that he made enough money to make it all worth it. What a ****ing disgrace to his dad's name and the sport of boxing. Bring back same day weigh-ins please.
What's embarrassing for Martinez is the number of people who thought-genuinely thought-that Chavez was ready for his level. It's almost an insult, in hindsight.
