Then they shouldnt be fighting in a weight class where they have to weight drain 24 hrs before fight in order to make weight, rules need to be changed. Fight at the weight you truly are at one week before the fight after your training camp, without necessity to sweat off water to tip the scales. Be allowed to only "sweat" off 5lbs to make weight. System needs to be retooled, as do most elements in boxing. But it wont, so be it, just sayin. Jr having a 12rnd rally aint that impressive knowing that hes got 20lbs + on Serg. Whats impressive is Serg doing what he did to the bigger guy and taking his best shots. But unfortunately that doesnt usually happen when someone uses the weight advantage. It just so happens Jr is not a very good boxer and his weight advantage didnt work vs the superior boxer/athlete.

The points you are making are right and make sense. However, there is the other side of that coin, in which fighters who come fight week find themselves not down to that contracted weight and then facing big fines - being stripped - etc , will dehydrate to avoid penalties and in effect enter the ring in a dangerous state.

Atleast with the day before weigh ins, fighters SHOULDN'T be entering the ring dehydrated.....which has been determined to be one of the biggest factors in causing major and long term injuries (if not ring deaths).

    That is the conundrum.

I know what you mean, but fighters who rehydrate to, say 182lbs, could not possibly enter the ring one hour after having weighed in at 168lbs, for example.

So they would have to go up to 175lbs at least.

the system is fine. everyone has the same opportunity to work it to his advantage. you decide where your best chance of success lies. ability to cut weight is no different of an advantage as ability to take a punch, which is also tied to how far you stray from your optimal weight.

This is also a fair conclusion.
